Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 22, 2013 2:49 pm Hi all, So, I'm trying to get my lists together for prestart, and was hoping some of you could give me some ideas on how much you paid for some upgrades? I know builders are going to vary a fair bit, but some ballpark figures, please? We don't have a lot of money left, so I'm trying to get a feeling for some of these things so I can decide if they are definitely TOO expensive, or maybe doable. Things I have in mind are: handless/sharknose drawers to kitchen. (Have already included all the drawers etc, so just the difference between handles and no handles is what I'm curious about.) Tiling to ceiling in bathroom. Tiling the splashback with 60cmx60cm or 80cmx80cm tiles (hoping it will be cheaper than glass?) Double wall oven instead of single. (Have already swapped the 900 under bench oven to a single 600 wall oven. ) Patterned internal doors instead of the plain ones. Wall-faced toilets. Cheers Darcy My Building Thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66087 Re: Cost for upgrades at pre start - 2Nov 22, 2013 6:36 pm Who are you building with? I can tell you what paid for our splash back it's 70cmx3m for tiles $160 for Glass $800(the white glass) The double wall oven could be up to $2,000 The others I don't know I would. Like to know about the handless cupboards/drawers Re: Cost for upgrades at pre start - 3Nov 22, 2013 7:40 pm Will depend enormously on your builder but ours was reasonable at: full wall tiling $440, 2100mm tiling $350 Re: Cost for upgrades at pre start - 4Nov 22, 2013 11:51 pm Floor to ceiling tiling in my ensuite was about $1500. To 1000mm was about $500. Not cheap, but something I really didn't want to have to do after handover. I've upgraded a lot of things, but that's only overlap I'm afraid. Upgraded doors happened to be included in the build when I signed up. As the previous post mentioned, it really depends on your builder. The bottom line? The builder will usually always be more expensive compared to the same task post handover. However given the effort you have to put in to make that small saving, it's almost worth paying for the convenience of having it sorted in the first instance. Re: Cost for upgrades at pre start - 5Nov 23, 2013 5:37 am as ,mentioned before depending on builder i was quoted 1200 to go handless 41 per door to upgrade to a patterned splashback was already included but paid $500 to upgrade the glass to have sparkles in it floor to ceiling tiles as i already supplied my own tiles it was an extra 500 for the main bathroom toilet and vanity area Re: Cost for upgrades at pre start - 6Nov 23, 2013 9:56 am We had options of either going handless or handles as part of our standard inclusions. Splashbacks or tiles to kitchen area were all part of our standard inclusions. It really depends on your builders anf theor current promotions. Our promotions had quite a lot of good inclusions so its cheaper to shop around. .. Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! Toilets are expensive! Many, many options, we went close coupled @ $350 each for decent ones. The wall faced were about $500 each, but there is also a plumbing surcharge as installation is more complicated - that was another $200 each toilet. Tiling was cheaper than glass for the splashback. We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds. That’s why we… 5 16275 We've had the offer of a short term tenant whilst waiting for CDC/DA home approval and demolition for our knock down rebuild. It would achieve a pretty low rent as it's… 0 13752 The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn.
