NBN connection from outside your house to a point inside your house or garage. That's the free bit (IF you are building in a Greenfields estate). Internal cabling inside your house (sometimes referred to as smart wiring) is optional and that is where the $700 charge is. That seems excessive to me, however, for a single data point (says she who is getting about 15). If you choose not to put in any data points then the only way you will be able to access the internet around your house is wirelessly (and thereby sacrificing the speeds available from NBN), or connected by ethernet cable to your router. My friend was charged $1500 by her developer to 'enable' her to be NBN ready, and as a previous poster pointed out, NBN did not end up coming there. Ripping off the technically challenged if you ask me. Question everything. Don't simply accept a vague amount for something you don't understand.
