Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 19, 2013 10:28 pm Hi all! We are in the beginning stages of our dream home build on our newly purchased 10 acre block. At the moment we are having trouble picking exterior colours and need to provide our decision to our architect for the basix and council approval ASAP to keep the ball rolling!! We both love the blue steel flash bricks however we've also both agreed that we still want a light airy feel (contradiction I know but hubby loves this brick) so are going with a light roof though really struggling to agree as hubby is not keen on dune (I think this and surfmist facia looks great with this brick!) and I don't really want the blue look that shale grey can throw. Any advice or pics of your own blue steel flash (or similar) and light exterior combos would be greatly appreciated!! I'll have a go tonight and hopefull it'll help to narrow down our choices! Thanks again! Any pics of anyone's dark brick and light roof colour schemes would still be greatly appreciated! Re: 10 acre dream home - help with exterior please!! 5Nov 20, 2013 7:13 pm I would stick with the colourbond SurfMist for your roof, as zincalume darkens through the years, and then just gets very hot when the sun starts beating down on it. The nice shiny new zincalume looks good to some at the start, but it does go off over a few years. Shame Colourbond Thredbo White isn't readily available for normal roofing though, as the roof stays nice and cool in the sun.... I had the zincalume roof painted that colour in our old house, and it made a massive difference to the inside of the house in summer. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: 10 acre dream home - help with exterior please!! 6Nov 20, 2013 9:54 pm D@n, I've never posted photos before so I've tried to add them below, hopefully it works. Thanks for the tip Bpratt. We really like the modern look of Zincalume, though don't want it getting darker over time! Any other colour suggestions that would work with this brick for a modern but light look would be greatly appreciated!!
