Had a day with a design consultant going through all the selections, followed by the pre-start to confirm the details and costs. While going through this process we started to have some doubts not just on the design but the finish of the house too. Like you we hadn't asked other builders for quotes and had the nagging feeling in the back of our mind about value for money. After getting the full cost for the build we decided to look at other builders, another 3-months later and we have pulled out of the first PPA and signed a PPA with a different builder. We informed the first builder that we wanted to put a halt on the process and we were going to look at other builders. They did not make a significant effort to work with us until I told them we were about to sign with another builder, by then it was to late. The deposit with your builder will hold the price for 6-months, so you can keep your options open. As for feeling bad, it's your investment, do what is right for you, they will understand. I'm currently in a similar situation. I paid an initial deposit to one builder after getting talked in to it and after working out a lot of the variations/options I want, I realised that it was getting expensive and I was actually better off looking a builder whose base prices are more expensive - but they include a lot more of what I want. I'm now looking at switching to a new builder, but I'm not completely decided. The most annoying part of the process has been getting all the answers to my questions. I was getting fed up of being told to come out for an appointment to discuss things only to go home one step further in the process and still without getting half the answers I wanted! :/ I'm feeling exactly the same way now, I'mnow much more aware of what's included/not included. Sometimes getting answers to questions is very difficult. Hoping to get some costing to some other designs then I'll make a decision on whether to continue or not. How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at? Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 11916 Hi All, I'm new here!
