Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 11, 2013 12:28 pm Just wondering how I organise this? Is it as simple as ringing the provider (in our case Origin Energy) and asking them to flip the switch, or do I need to employ an electrician after handover to physically connect something before ringing our providers? Sorry if this is a silly question. So many things running through my mind now that we're getting close. Thank you. Re: Connection of electricity - knock down rebuild 2Nov 12, 2013 1:36 pm Ring Origin Energy and ask them? It's not a flip of a switch - there's a need for a qualified (on that type of network) electrician to work on their mains network to disconnect you (with a work order from them). Then when you are organising your temporary power for the builders same again - a new connection... then when you are ready to move in it's a new connection for the house. You might find they are willing to skip some of that rigmarole if you are able to do chunks of it at the same time but if it's different days it's different work orders generally.
