Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 141Oct 19, 2015 4:09 pm Ok. I just received the delay letter. We're in the frame stage. Plans are still on track. I can't comment yet on the build quality, our separate private inspector hasn't inspected the site yet. I bet your slab should be good before Christmas. If your frames are put up before the break also, good on you. Else, you're looking at late January/early February. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 145Nov 04, 2015 9:22 pm I got that letter too! We still havent had gyprock started! We are currently 11 weeks behind. Apparently he is going to try have us in before Christmas and it's looking very unlikely at this stage! I am furious!!! Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 146Nov 04, 2015 9:31 pm Oh wow! That's really bad! We have had the tiler there the last 2 days and Thursday last week but I haven't had a look as its been really wet and makes site access a messy job. We are looking at about 4 weeks of work (we are currently 1 week over our "move in" date) and then however long for handover itself Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 147Nov 05, 2015 9:52 am Hi Guys, We are looking to build with Elerton in Willowdale as they provided us quote within very much our budget and we liked the plan too than other builders but are little bit scared now that the reviews are not that good. Is the delay only issue with them? What about the products and materials they provide? Are they according to the contract? We really cant afford much delay over the promised date.. Can you guys please suggest what is the maximum delay they do? Your help is really very much appreciated Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 148Nov 05, 2015 10:23 am Roshny I haven't had an issue with their quality so far. I say so far because I will wait for final handover and go over it thoroughly. The supervisors are managing so many builds at once that it's important to pay attention to your build and bring up and concerns at your fortnightly phone calls with them. I've found by no bugging my supervisor by calling them that things happen without any tension. We are looking at a 7-8 week delay. Other people have faced longer delays (Susie as an example). The issue is they are doing so much at once and that trades are short as they like to use the same people and there's just too much work now. Price wise I'm still very happy. Within saying that there's a fair few companies that are the same. For fast builds you'd look at eden brae/connect homes, new living homes and ready built. Best wishes Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 149Nov 05, 2015 11:27 am I am building with them too. I still have second thoughts about them. No one expect delay as everyone will have to pay rent or extra mortgage for a longer period. Elderton have to come up with a solution to stop all these bad comments about them by giving their customers a good service. If they can not afford to cater for even existing customers, they have to stop signing up with new customers. Lot of people build may be one or two times in their life time and Elderton should not make that journey a miserable experience to their customers. By saying that I appreciate how they communicate with me so far and their flexibility. Their price is not that bad and they got great home designs. I expect they will come up with solutions for all these problems without blaming the shortage of trades all the time. Because they have to work hard to wipe out the bad name created in various forums to stay in the business. However I am still open minded about them and hope Elderton will not disappoint us for being with them after seen all these bad comments. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 150Nov 05, 2015 12:17 pm Thank you very much Emma and Mahyn We are also thinking as their service is really good, if it is below 2 months should be fine but more delay will cause peoblem as Mahyn said, we also pay high rent Thank you guys Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 151Nov 05, 2015 2:15 pm Don't forget there service will be good in the beginning but that is because they want you to sign. They have taken on way too much work and the delays are unacceptable. Not only the delays for us but quality is only ok. Personally I don't think much of them at all. I would never recommend them and will do what I possibly can to steer people away from them. I'm not saying they are the worst because this is my first build and I can't comment on what others are like. All I know is that friends, one building with Masterson and one with Wisdom both started 2 months after me and are now both living in there new homes. There were times when my house just stood there, no contractors, perfect weather and still nothing. Every time I rang the office to speak to speak to someone they were always at lunch and never phoned back. They are a joke, stay away from them. I would rather her pay more money and be in my house on time or at least a reasonable time. To top it off they put us off from getting the keys tomorrow until next Thursday. Another week they are going to have to compensate me there lousy $50 per week. I'm glad I'm not renting but this doesn't even cover what I pay my parents. Thanks, Matt Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 152Nov 05, 2015 4:01 pm Yes, I think it would be wise to get a comparison tender and then work out how much you pay in rent and how much longer the build will take knowing it's highly likely you'll have delays then see if another builder is just as affordable Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 153Nov 05, 2015 7:38 pm Agree with Mrpatto, the service is great to begin with but now it is shocking! Never have my calls returned and when I complain they are just extremely rude to me. I have emailed the owner of Elderton homes, waiting for a reply or for him to give someone a kick up the butt to get our house finished. I do a lot of mortgages for construction loans and there are ones out there within the same price range as Elderton without the problems and delays. I would not go near them again. If I was you I would keep looking and find someone else because if you're anything like me you are looking at a 17 week delay which is huge considering your contract is 28 weeks. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 154Nov 06, 2015 12:02 pm Hi Everyone, I just found this forum and thank you all for the valuable info. Wish I saw these posts before I chose Elderton...I am yet to start building and waiting for the land to register.... I just completed the electrical plan and the cost is around 15k....Do you guys think that I have gone overboard? Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 155Nov 06, 2015 1:43 pm Hi Newbie101, 15K wow makes me feel better hope you get a lot for that. In fairness my brother was allowed and did all my electrical so I go what I wanted and he looked after me. I wish you had signed with another builder as well. Sorry but expect long delays Thanks, Matt Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 156Nov 07, 2015 10:12 am These feedbacka are really helpful to me.. I am giving second thought about Elderton... Thank you all, hope i can find a better plan, really liked the plan Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 157Nov 09, 2015 11:39 am Hi newbie, Where are you building we are waiting for our land to finish and register. We have had friends build with Elderton and are expecting delays after what they went through, but we are happy with their finished product and so are they, despite a few things that needed fixing. It will be interesting to see how they manage our estate as its 32 Elderton House and Land packages so it will be interesting to see how they manage the tradies and time etc. When it all kicks in I am sure I will be whinging here loads. Like other people have said, I have also had friends build with Rawson and other builders in NSW and WA and they all have experienced delays. Its just a pain when you also have a Mortgage/Rent to pay as well. Re: Elderton Homes - experiences & reviews 158Nov 09, 2015 12:23 pm Hi everyone I was wondering where everyone is building, as I was wondering if the guys with the massive delays are building away from their head office and not around the North West area We are looking to do a KDR with fairhaven homes, Have seen plenty of good reviews about them pre construction and plenty of negative reviews about them during contruction… 0 14288 Hi starting the process of looking around for Dual Occ builders.
