Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 07, 2013 10:21 pm Hi, i just want to know general opinion of ppl who are building. HOW FUZZY YOU SHOULD BE WHEN BUILDING A HOUSE? I believe we all want to have a perfect house. So, would you chase your SS/admin for every single fault in the house or you just let it go if its minor? What will be the limit of finally being annoying to our SS/admin? Would you accept it if it is minor fault or would you stick to what you think it should be until it is rectified? Would be interested to know how far of ppl would go. Personally, i am the perfectionist type, so i will annoy them until they get it right. Re: How fuzzy you should be when building a house? 3Nov 07, 2013 11:51 pm It's best to leave your defects list as late as possible and then deliver it in one hit during/around PCI. Think about how annoying it would be for you if someone rang you about every small thing all the time. Major items like design faults mention straight away during the build for sure though. It's okay to be OCD but you need to make sure you have your facts right when making your defects list. Remember every day your building it's costing you money for an uninhabitable residence. Time has got to play a role with how fussy you are otherwise nothing will ever get finished. Be nice and communicate early with your SS, find a common ground with your expectations and what he/she can/will deliver. Both parties need to trust each other. If your SS sees that you have realistic expectations he'll be more engaged to attend to all your items without fear of "the next thing" you pick out. Re: How fuzzy you should be when building a house? 4Nov 08, 2013 8:37 am I agree with Wakudoki - you need to be sure on what you are doing before you insist something is incorrect. And wholeheartedly agree with the "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" theory. The results you get can come down to your attitude and approach. That being said, you are paying for a service, and like any service you expect it to be done correctly and as promised, so you definitely have the right to that. Side note: There is a big difference between "OCD", a clincal mental illness, and being analy retentive/fussy.... Especially The results you get can come down to your attitude and approach. I've seen it so many times where normally nice people become "Buildzillars" (new word ?)and become anal about every little detail and beat on the builder to a point where communications break down (CLA's and SS's are people too and cop a lot as it is) So basically if it's something major bring it to their attention but go with the flow and keep a list for the pre handover inspection. Listening to Deluxes and Wakudoki replies will make your life much easier. 101 Residential in Burns Beach viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67711 Shire Approval 31.12.13 Slab Down 15.02.14 Moved in 14.10.14 Re: How fuzzy you should be when building a house? 6Nov 08, 2013 8:58 am I also agree that's the best approach to contain oneself. However, more often than not, I can be too drown on what is right and be too fuzzy! haha. What about for something that is yet to be done. For example batten light positions (as the drawing does not specify exact location but you want it to be on a specific spot), or about tiling where you want the grout between wall tile and floor tile to meet. Would you communicate this early or wait until PCI to get them corrected??? If there are things that you want then I would ask if they can be written down as a request at design stage. In general though if you want a pleasant build experience then you will probably have to let some things go such as the time it takes. I try to focus on the end goal and as long as what I want happens then all good but how it happens is out of my control. I've decided, after a period of confusion (my building broker told me it's probably not worth it to use a lawyer, but others have said it is a must) that I definitely will… 7 27953 i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16007 hey there! π so, itβs kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20907 |
