Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 41Jan 21, 2014 1:32 pm Wow our house started around the same time as yours and we have no bricks yet Simmonds honestly seem to be much quicker than most other builders! Looking good Re: Simonds Sierra - We have a roof 42Jan 23, 2014 11:31 am We went out for an inspection today and we have a roof. I really hoped I'd be able to get a better photo, however the sun wasn't in a great position and the house next door now has a frame which limits our photo perspectives. We really love it and think it looks great. We also found out that our cathedral ceiling will have cornices which we're realy upset about, we wanted the clean modern look like the display homes. I've actually suggested to Simonds that it would be good if they had a checklist of everything on offer for us, I was told that this was a great idea as too many times things are missed and clients don't get what they want. Too late for us thought. Lock up should be today apparently, and then the inside starts which gets really exciting. Then they are saying they should be started at some point after australia day. Thats a shame on the cornices... Are you talking about the square sets? where they elminate the cornices? Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 44Jan 23, 2014 1:06 pm Maybe Henley have a few more builds on the go, or less staff? Thats annoying that you're waiting so long. All you want to see when you settle your land is for the build to start happening. I was surprised that people were working on our place over christmas, i wasn't expecting it. The builder honestly probably just wants me off of their books fast, they don't like me and I'm struggling to like them! However I think Simonds do most jobs pretty fast. We were waiting 18 months to just settle our block and its now been two years since we first started this process so we know exactly how you feel, however when it does start, it kind of makes the waiting a semi-distant memory! Yeah, its the square set that we're not getting, I just think it will ruin the whole look, and will make the space less modern, but nothing we can do now. I'm also surprised that they don't know the price, this is what I found with a lot of things. I'd ask what the upgrade costs would be at our selections appointment and they didn't know and said they'd have to get back to me at a later date....doesn't help me when I have to make the decisions that day. Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 45Jan 23, 2014 1:16 pm Yea we started our build around the same date as you did by the looks of it, our slab and frame was completed before christmas and we are yet to see bricks. Henley do have a lot of ready built homes that they are building at the moment, and someone who works in Henley said that at the moment they have put priority on them, which kinda makes me a little bit annoyed! Ah well. They have said that our bricks should start after australia day! In the mean time they have been laying our electricity wires and plumbing. Ah yes the old cost issues! Henley was the same with us, we upgraded a few things and when we upgraded them the girls in the colour room over priced everything, then when we went to rtender/contract it was a lot cheaper! So we could have added more stuff!! SO annoying! with the square set though, can you get this done after move in? Get a plaster to come in and change it all? I have no idea how it all works Re: Simonds Sierra - We have a roof 46Jan 23, 2014 1:23 pm Builders hey....stayxtrue!!! Fun Fun Fun!! It'll get there though! I think a new thing happening every 3 days was enough to keep me excited, but the 2 weeks it stopped killed me! So I know exactly how your feeling. We've just checked the website that gives us an update of whats going on with the build, they've just changed the status to Lockup. Thats great, however we have no cladding for the eaves (not that theres much anyway) and they're still waiting for some more bricks for the sills under the windows....so I wouldn't class it as lock up yet, since thats supposed to be done. Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 47Jan 23, 2014 1:47 pm Yea I know our SS went on leave 3 and a bit weeks which was expected, but the annoing thing is he is the one that orders our bricks and so on, He never did that, so now there is a back log and he has been back for over a week and there isnt much they can do at the moment. We also had someone come and remove our alfresco door over the weekend so now this needs to be replaced, which is only going to cause further delays. As they need to order one again! So our lockup is probably going to take quite some time Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 48Jan 23, 2014 5:40 pm Roof looks great! Cheers to lockup. Let the fun begin!! Wont take long now! Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 49Jan 24, 2014 12:29 am Your roof looks good. We also got the cornices to the high ceilings, at first we called and said we didn't want that.... But by the end of the day we called back and said leave it because it actually looks good, looks finished and with the huge cornices we got we are happy Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 50Jan 24, 2014 10:28 am SA Simonds Sierra...do you have a photo of your cornices? I'm still worried about it, no doubt it looks good, just nervous. Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 51Jan 24, 2014 11:38 am if you have the higher cathedral ceilings I am sure it will look fine! Did they charge much for the higher ceilings? With henley we got the square set as part of the promotion, but then again I have never seen a hnley with cornices... Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 52Jan 24, 2014 11:40 am Yeah, the cathedral ceilings were about $8,000 including extra windows. Its too late not to have the cornices and we don't have the money in our budget to pay to have square set ourselves. Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 53Jan 24, 2014 11:57 am You would think that for such a high extra price that they could have thrown them in!! I wouldnt have thought that it would really cost that much extra Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 55Jan 24, 2014 5:15 pm You've made me feel better now! Thanks SA Simonds Sierra! Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 56Jan 25, 2014 5:27 pm The cheek....simonds sent us the 'lockup' invoice yesterday. Checked the house today and its definitely not locked up. The brickwork under the windows hasn't been finished either. The doors are sitting in the house as well as our shower bases and mixers, hopefully they don't get stolen. Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 57Jan 25, 2014 8:00 pm That's pretty terrible! I am assuming they sent that a couple of days before with the plan of it being at lockup! I would be telling your admin that you want to see it at lock up before you take it to the bank Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 58Jan 26, 2014 7:40 am They sent it Thursday, the same day we went for an inspection and the SS said the doors would be going on. Sorry, its not getting paid until everything that is supposed to be finished is finished. Re: Simonds Sierra - We have some bricks 59Jan 26, 2014 8:07 pm Yep I wouldnt be giving up that payment till you are at true lock up, the simple fact is they will still build pending that payment, they are a large volume builder. Just don't give it to your bank till the end of the week, that way by the time they pay them it should be at lock up! Re: Simonds Sierra - We have internal walls 60Jan 30, 2014 8:37 pm We went to check out the house today, plaster was up, waterproofing was done and cornices and architraves were ready to be installed. Its tough to not get too excited now.
