Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 02, 2013 10:29 am Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has applied for an extension of the new home grant in NSW. We are looking at buying land and start to build within 12 months but not able to start within the 26 weeks. If so what did they want from you and how hard was it to get etc. Thanks Re: New Home Grant Extension-NSW 4Mar 24, 2014 8:29 pm I haven't done it but was previously told that if you can provide a contract etc they are prepared to offer the extension. TBH though I'm not sure how they would otherwise know - do they ask for a photo or something after 26 weeks? Can't imagine they'd be inspecting every site. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: New Home Grant Extension-NSW 5Mar 25, 2014 7:56 am Hi All, Could you pls share any info you have on this as I'm now 3 months in and still hasn't started the build. I have already received the grant. I was looking for how to apply for an extension. From the information I gather I think I will have to write a letter to the Chief Commissioner. And apparently it is decided on a case by case basis. Re: New Home Grant Extension-NSW 8Jan 21, 2015 3:26 pm Hi Landlubber, You are corect in that the process is to write a letter and it is determined on a case-by-case basis. Here is the reply I recieved from the OSR (emailed duties@osr.nsw.gov.au) : *********************************************************** To request an extension to the 26 week time frame to commence building you need to send a written request addressing the following points; 1. A copy of the front page of your contract to purchase the vacant land. 2. Your postal address - part of the process involves a written letter being mailed to you. 3. The settlement date of your contract to purchase the vacant land. 4. The reasons for the delay in commencing to start construction. 5. The time frame needed to meet the requirement of construction commencing ie laying of foundations. Once the above information is received you will receive an email confirming whether your request for extension has been approved and an official letter confirming the decision will be mailed to you. The above information is provided for general clarification purposes only. The information is given without reference to specific or contractual clauses, therefore, the actual facts may vary once submitted for assessment. Any information provided does not constitute a 'ruling' or a binding decision for assessment purposes. Please note: The above information cannot be considered legal advice and you may wish to seek independent legal advice. ********************************************************* Hope that helps? I did do this back in June and received an extension. OSR was really helpful on this and they approved it really fast. They actually rang me after I sent the email requesting extension. regardless, your contract stipulates a payments schedule and SOPA doesn't give provision to that scenario.
