Browse Forums Building A New House Re: MrsT12s AM530 - Plastered 141May 02, 2014 8:38 am woooo sounds like your really close now, After our floors went in it was around the 3-4 week mark, so you should be in by then, but then again it could be sooner Re: MrsT12s AM530 - Plastered 142May 02, 2014 3:28 pm Yeah we're thinking 4 weeks. I hope so, got a baby due in 10wks lol. SS says two weeks to finish up all the little bits and pieces that need doing, then a week for the bank to get their stuff organized. We're adding another week leeway to that so hoping end of month! We're so happy with how they've gone during the build. We had one little hiccup last week (something we'd requested had been overlooked) but they fixed it right away with no problems. Otherwise the whole process has been smooth sailing! Going to look at curtains/blinds tomorrow, and are in the process of trying to find a concreter. Easier said than done, we have an immediate family member who wanted to charge a stupid amount (even though hubby and his dad would be doing the labour!) so had to find an alternative. Asked a relatives friend to do it but he's just stopped concreting and only wants little cash jobs. So we have one more acquaintance to ask, then just have to try and find a random concreter person. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013. Things never worked out in my case. I would rather hire an outsider, confirm all specs and haggle on cost. No one will ever remind me doing a favor ever, after substandard work and higher cost. Just my 2 cents. Re: MrsT12s AM530 - Plastered 144May 02, 2014 5:10 pm Yea I agree we had some family friends come in at a much higher price! Just wasn't worth it! What happened to helping family and friends?? I'm originally from Ballarat and people still help you out where needed! But in Melbourne where the price of living is high I found people are less willing to forfeit money to help a close friend or neighbour Re: MrsT12s AM530 - Plastered 145May 02, 2014 6:07 pm I thought immediate family would be a bit more reasonable lol. And we'd have been able to repay them in kind in the future no problems. But whatevs, pretty sure they just didn't want to do the job so we'll go elsewhere. And they won't be getting as many freebies from us down the track lol. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013. Not the cheapest around, but their work is impeccable. Re: MrsT12s AM530 - Plastered 147May 03, 2014 6:39 pm Thanks! We're north, but if I cant find anyone nearby I'll let you know - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013. But it's better finding someone more local We paid more than we wanted for ours, but he did display homes and also used Hanson concrete! He said the biggest issue these days are the premix places! You get some pretty ******* mixes. I would highly suggest going through Hanson concrete and ask them who uses their concrete. The difference in quality is really quite big! Our driveway looks like a million dollars compared to others around us! Even some of our neighbours have said there's look terrible next to ours! Re: MrsT12s AM530 - Plastered 151May 08, 2014 8:51 pm No news yet, they're just doing all the litte fixes. Got a concreter coming to quote on Sunday. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Nice, considering this is the first bill I've been sent and I'd have preferred to have paid that months ago if that's when it was due. I hate our sh!tty council. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. We got our final invoice and CofO and sent it to the bank today, and our New Home Presentation is booked for Tuesday 27th. All going well we'll hand over the cheque and get the keys the same day that's a great news time to celebrate Re: MrsT12s AM530 - Done! 157May 27, 2014 8:30 pm Bugger! No keys. The SS was away last week and a few things he'd organized didn't get done so we have to wait till next Tuesday to settle. And it WILL be happening that day regardless because today I organized for a furniture delivery, oven/cooktop installation, tv antenna, and Telstra connection to all be done on tues lol! The hot water service will be done then as well, but the heater/air con won't be commissioned till the Friday. I DID get to take some photos today though so as soon as I can jump on the computer tonight I'll upload them. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013.
