If however they just poured the new one next to the existing without tieing them into each other then I would be looking at getting them to redo it all again!!! If all is good with your floor and passes the engineers certification I would be asking them to see about laying down a screed or a coloured sealer seeing as they ruined the floor that you wanted. There is no issue with having vertical gaps in your internal wall brickwork, of course depending on the size of the gaps. These gaps will be filled with plaster and isn't anything to worry about. Burns is right about the repairs to the slab. It happened to me. Take a look at my thread the stories doll there. But sorry BFT. I have to beg to differ on he internal brick gaps. We had this with colli3r homes in our rental we built and we have done nothing the past 5 years but chase out vertical cracks and refil them. We saw the holes before they plastered but assumed it would be okay. Now a friend has built with them aswell and she has the same problem. I would insist they are filled before plastering had I know then what I know now. Yeah they said they did put in reinforcement into the slab glad DHA is getting an engineer to sign off of it. Bit worries as there is already a crack running up one wall cracked through a few bricks. So good to have feedback on the internal brick gaps, they say it's all fine and allows the plaster to stick better ect... I will stick to my. Guns and ensure it is all filled before plaster goes on. We saw some houses down south that all the brick work was really nice, internal and external. So there is no reason they can't/shouldn't fix it up. I've put it in writing that all the gaps are to be filled before any plastering is done. 2 separate emails not sure what else I can do to get them to take me seriously... I will look into screed, not keen on a colour sealer, I'm even considering asking for tiles, but I really don't like tiles, don't think I could keep the grout looking good. see what they come up with, hopefully I hear back soon I don't want to be rushed into making a decision. DAH Build- Venice Signed Contracts - getting ready for Pre-start Re: Dale Alcock first time Build - House behind a house- 35Oct 03, 2014 5:42 pm Hi Family_of_3 Getting an Engineer is a good idea As for the bricks they are fastwall or equivalent the cored holes are running horizontal these are not as structural as verticor which have the holes running vertically. Unfortunatley filling in the perps (vertical gaps) on fast wall after the wall is up will do nothing for the structural integrity of the wall so I wouldnt bother personally as the plasterer will fill them now. Generally the height of the wall, slenderness ratio, wall intersections, stiffening, roof pitching loads etc, etc. are taken into consideration when we select the type of bricks and design. Generally engineers dont look at brickwork unless they are asked to as per AS3700.HTH Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Dale Alcock first time Build - House behind a house- 36Oct 03, 2014 9:05 pm justlearning And glad to hear your little one is doing better. +1 as family always comes first Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Dale Alcock first time Build - House behind a house- 37Oct 10, 2014 12:57 pm well, finaly got some answers from our ss, after 2 weeks of no returned calls and no answers via email just usual diversion tactics! so all the grey float is on, brick work did not get filled in. its like we were totally ignored would have taken 20mins to go around and fill it in with mud! I got skiggered at when asked if they put metal lathing under the plaster to allow for movment and reduce cracking. he just said he's never used it before. and when I asked y there was already a crack running through the brickwork I got "I really dont know" oh that's so reassuring coming from our site supervisor! !!! and yes they just put grey float ovet it. gosh they are frickin sneeky not getting I contact and just covering up the problem!! not happy at all! Anyone have a decent building inspectors contact details we really can't afford it but at this rate.... but really if I put in writing that things need to be addressed and aren't what can I do? already spoken to a manager about it..... feeling like its a lost cause. This site/forum is a very good resource I suggest you use it please Leave a PM and I'll see if i can help, ...
