Browse Forums Building A New House Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Drafting & Contracts 21Dec 02, 2013 12:32 pm G'day KiwiGalAbroad, We're at exactly the same spot, waiting for working drawings and contracts before having pre-start. Really impatient to get a construction start but on the other hand not really prepared for pre-start at all Really need to start looking at tile shops and kitchen showrooms I think Good luck with your build! Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Contracts for Xmas ! 22Dec 19, 2013 4:34 pm Yay , Just got a call from our sales rep to say she has our final contracts and plans. Quite a surprise to get them as we were warned they could take up to 8 weeks, but only took 3.5 weeks. As the builder shuts down tomorrow afternoon we have until the 6th Jan to look over them - looks like i will have to make room in the suitcase as we fly home for two weeks on Monday ! Oh and .... Merry Christmas Everyone Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Contracts for Xmas ! 23Dec 19, 2013 6:02 pm Nice to be surprised in a good way for Christmas Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Prestart Booked 24Jan 10, 2014 4:27 pm We spent last night finalising our colour choices with a trip to Trevors Carpets and Crosbys Tiles. We had a wee fender bender getting from one place to the other when a lady tried to cut in front on queuing traffic and didn't see us coming up the left hand lane, some super smart evasive driving by my husband stopped us colliding head on and she just clipped the rear right of our car. The crunch sound was way worse than the actual damage which is a plus. Will post pics of colour selections shortly. Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Prestart Booked 25Jan 10, 2014 4:51 pm So we have gone for boring old grey, but its always a winner Dark grey tile is the floor tile for Bathroom, Ensuite, Laundry & Toilet While tile is for shower, and border tiles Light grey tile is the shower feature tile Charcoal cabinets and Zincworks benchtops Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Main floor tile and Carpet sample Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Grey tile for kitchen floor White for border tiles Charcoal cabinets and Sorbet stone bench tops Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ we will add a glass splash back after handover, I'm thinking maybe metallic gun metal ?? Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Prestart Booked 26Jan 10, 2014 5:23 pm Hey Kiwigal, congrats on land settlement. That's as far along as we are, now waiting for our working drawings and pre start scheduling. we're with a different builder though so may be slightly different order of things. I really like your plan and color selections. I was at laminex showroom the other day and fell in love with the sorbet bench. Working to convince hubby:-) we're actually travelling to NZ in feb. Am very excited, never been, except for a one day layover in Auckland when we moved here from the u.s. Not sure that counts. We were exhausted so didn't really get to enjoy it. Am super excited!! when do you have pre start? Good luck with the build. Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Prestart Booked 27Jan 10, 2014 9:51 pm Thanks Ardie, Let me know if you need any tips or advice on your holiday to NZ, it is a very beautiful country - but like most you still need to be danger smart. We lived in the US for a while, my daughter was born in Charlotte, NC - Where are you from? We loved it and would be happy to go back. Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Prestart Booked 28Jan 10, 2014 10:32 pm Great colour choices. I think gun metal glass will be nice because it will reflect light from your light coloured bench tops, so it won't be too dark. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Prestart Booked 29Jan 14, 2014 9:08 pm Thanks House by the water , I can't believe your doing all this from so far away ! I hope you have someone nearby the build that can take photos for you along the way. What a wonderful house you will come home too though. Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Prestart Booked 30Jan 14, 2014 9:26 pm Charlotte is lovely. Originally from CT, but spent about 15 years prior to moving here in the Rocky Mountain area, CO & UT. Went from 9 long months of Winters to the wonderful Perth heat. Love it! Good luck with pre start. Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Tap? 32Jan 24, 2014 2:00 pm That'd be the one Another step closer..... Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Tap? 33Jan 24, 2014 4:47 pm well i will get excited then Is it normal to have the tap before pre start? Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Tap? 34Jan 24, 2014 4:55 pm No idea If you've signed the building contract then they can be assured you're building with them so I guess they just put it in when it's convenient for them?? Re: KiwiGalAbroad's First Home Build - Tap? 35Jan 25, 2014 9:44 am Yep contracts all signed, so your theory seems sound Re: KiwiGalAbroad's Build - anyone regret tile selection? 37Jan 31, 2014 12:00 pm Did anyone choose a floor tile that they now think is either too dark or too light? I was more than happy with my selection until hubby showed me photos of a house that had a lighter tile to the one we have chosen and now I'm having second thoughts. Also a distant relation have dark tiles in their bathroom and they say its the worse thing they ever did Re: KiwiGalAbroad's Build - anyone regret tile selection? 38Jan 31, 2014 1:40 pm I think its personal taste as well as the ambient light levels and size of room. If you have a small room with not many windows then a dark tile will make the room feel small and dark. Vice versa, if you room is light and bright and quite big then darker tiles can look great. Also depends on your wall colours and furniture and everything else. If you like it, stick with it Re: KiwiGalAbroad's Build - anyone regret tile selection? 39Jan 31, 2014 2:08 pm Dukecaddy I think its personal taste as well as the ambient light levels and size of room. If you have a small room with not many windows then a dark tile will make the room feel small and dark. Vice versa, if you room is light and bright and quite big then darker tiles can look great. Also depends on your wall colours and furniture and everything else. If you like it, stick with it The only problem with that Dukecaddy is that, in theory our main living area should be reasonably bright, but we have to decided at this end of the build before we can even see if this is the case - like wise our entry hallway will probably end up being darkish, but we have to use the same tile throughout. Re: KiwiGalAbroad's Build - anyone regret tile selection? 40Feb 07, 2014 11:45 pm Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one who got excited over a tap!!! I'm pretty sure the tap goes in once you make an account with the water corp. as that's when ours went in The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn. Just the way it is. 1 8702 Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
