Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 29, 2013 10:38 am Hi, we've just been told by our builder that for our laundry cupboard, we will need to do the cutout ourselves after handover (ie cut a hole in the side of the cupboard to access the washing machine taps, which are inside the cupboard under the trough) -- is this normal that we need to do this ourselves? Last time the builder installed the cupboard with the hole already cut out... Thanks in advance! Re: laundry cupboard cutout to be done after handover? 2Oct 29, 2013 2:25 pm For our builder, Burbank, we had to DIY the cutout for the hoses. The reason BB gave was that they don't provide a standard cutout as all washing machines are different. That has not been my experience but it's easy enough to grab a holesaw and make the cutout. Yeah it's pretty silly really. The taps are installed towards one side and angled such that it is completely irrelevant what your washing machine is - given that if you want to be able to get the hoses to the taps and be able to screw them on there's only one logical place to put the hole!!! But yes, I had to cut my own hole too. Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: laundry cupboard cutout to be done after handover? 4Oct 29, 2013 3:40 pm If you have a Miele washing machine you need a much bigger hole to get the square water stopper (I assume that's what it is) attached to the hose through the hole. I'd assume that is what they are talking about regarding different machines needing different holes. Re: laundry cupboard cutout to be done after handover? 6Oct 29, 2013 6:52 pm Thanks everyone, I thought it seemed quite silly too, since I figured the cutout is only going to go in one spot (and I figured the builder would probably do a neater job!), but seems common to do it after handover. Cheers Re: laundry cupboard cutout to be done after handover? 7Oct 30, 2013 6:48 am Ours came with the cutout (still under construction). Not sure about the facing of the taps (assuming a weird angle based on display home - seems to be the standard!) / hole size being sufficient though. Will drill out any additional space with a hole saw as needed.
