Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 24, 2013 3:15 pm After working as a civil engineer for the past 20 years I have recently started as a new homes consultant for the Northern NSW and Southern Queensland areas. As I do not have a network of people who are interested in exploring new home options, I would certainly appreciate chatting to anyone who is deliberating about building. Over the years I have worked with some of the best and worst architects and councils and hope that I can share some of the experiences prior to new home buyers committing any cash. Thanks and regards Mark Re: New to New Home Sales-welcome all advice 2Oct 24, 2013 6:37 pm My suggestion is that you focus in this order on being friendly, down-to-earth, flexible, knowing your product and knowing how much it costs. Also be happy to and have the patience to answer the dumbest questions. I spoke to lots of sales consultants when trying to choose a builder. The 3 consultants from which I got tenders all generally satisfied the above criteria ( although two of them were constrained by the restrictive policies of their employers ). In my experience too many sales consultants are rude and arrogant and don't give new clients the time and patience they deserve. Provided a potential client has shown you a reasonably detailed description of your land, a client should be able to walk from an initial consultation with a rough idea of cost to build a particular home. Also be prepared to give them rough be clear itemisations of these costs. My husband and I both have a very high opinion of Marilyn (and Paul and Glen) at the office there. She is the main reason we briefly consider other builders but always come back to Integrity. We value her honesty, ability to consider options outside the box, superb industry knowledge and her knack of being able to understand what we're asking for. Perhaps you could ask her for some tips?
