If you don't mind me asking but what state are you in Thanks John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: French provincial style 4Feb 01, 2009 3:24 pm Porter Davis do homes in this style for their double story homes - give them a look. Re: French provincial style 5Feb 01, 2009 4:28 pm Thank you all for your replies. I am in Vic. The houses shown are a bit like I'm after. I guess I'm after a more traditional style in a new house. You see them more in inner suburbs where (unfortunately) original houses have been demolished. I will probably need to knock on doors to ask who built this house. I'm a bit shy about that. Re: French provincial style 6Feb 01, 2009 5:20 pm French provincial overlaps a bit with the Victorian era so perhaps use that as a search alternative?
Will you continue the theme inside or is it just the facade you are after? Brody Mother of 3 children, 2 dogs and a husband. Re: French provincial style 8Feb 01, 2009 8:17 pm Thanks Brody . A little bit country style for the interior I think. Its mainly finding a facade I like that is the problem. brodyb French provincial overlaps a bit with the Victorian era so perhaps use that as a search alternative? Lovely work! Gorgeous houses too! Re: French provincial style 11Feb 01, 2009 8:32 pm cascre Give American Homes a try. They are the American style that overlaps very closely with French Provincial. Stunning homes!! www.americanhomes.com.au Re: French provincial style 12Jul 24, 2011 8:18 am Any quality builder recommended? We chated to Glenvill about it, it seems positive to check on their display home on Burke Rd, a modern home. Still waiting to see their 914 Balwyn Rd display home with French Provincial style in August. However, few negatives on this forum to make me think twice. Comdain home, C & J designer home and Enterprise Construction still on the list. The basic figure for 6 bedroom double storey 50 sq home cost from $850,000 to $1.4m. Any suggestions for searching the right builders? We do value this forum very much as everyone sharing their experience. Look forward to have more ideas from here. Hello gwu69 I was surprised to see your question so long after I asked my question. Sounds you have the same search criteria we had 2 or 3 years ago. Well you won't be surprised to hear it has been very difficult to find a builder who builds in this style for a reasonable price. We got a designer to design a modernish style with a french provincial exterior. I was approached by a builder through the designer who quoted $875,000! We were flabbergasted ,thinking that if we tripled the price of a "Porter Davis" etc. that we were in the ballpark price for a custom build. Not so.We are still looking but have seriously thought of selling our block of land and buying an older house. So my advice to you is keep looking for a multi builder( such as Glenvill,Comdain) not a custom builder. But your quotes are huge too. Are those quotes from Glenvill or a custom builder? I would love to hear how you get on. Tomorrow I see another builder who is quoting lower (verbally) and this seems hopeful at the moment. I will let you know how it goes. Good luck.I think you'll need it. Re: French provincial style 14Jul 25, 2011 10:20 pm The figure is from one of custom builder, but Glenvill should be too much different. However, lower figure doesn't mean much until you can compare on same quality of material used and design. What I try to find out is a builder that I can trust on their reputation, customer service; rather we have to be on-site to keep eye on tradies. Re: French provincial style 15Aug 23, 2012 11:45 am hi, Suze. Just follow up how you go with searching, we are back on searching again after we had a baby. I will find out from Glenvill and Comdain with an estimate, please recommend if you have found some reliable builders. Re: French provincial style 16Aug 23, 2012 2:31 pm Hi We have started our build at last and we certainly hope we have a good builder. He came with recommendations from Formcraft (our insulated concrete form building material) and we rang two people he built for who were happy. I would be interested to hear how you go with Glenville. Recently went to a display home in Burwood . Beautiful home but not French Provincial , although they have photos of a French Provincial style they had done. Verde is their name. Have you visited the Englehart FP in Belmore Road. Would cost a fortune I imagine. There is a FP in Paisley Ave Balwyn. This is a finished home that was sold recently but they may know the builder. If you are interested in our builder after you get quotes from Glenville and Comdain then write again. We had to get a Custom Build as we are on a slope. Best of luck. Suze Re: French provincial style 17Aug 28, 2012 12:10 am Hi, Suze. Comdain quoted me the starting point is from $17500 per sq, while Eglehart start from $20000 per sq. Metrixxx got Monarch display along Belmore Rd, Balwyn; 58 sq with many upgrade quoted $930,000. We do like to the space and design; still await for Glenvill's sketch and estimate, they would be more expensive. How did you go with your building process? Are you happy with the builder and their quality? If yes, we would like to know. I have seen many complaints against those builders, perhap that no many owners share their hapiness. It is also depends who is the site supervisor. Good luck to you. Gary Re: French provincial style 18Aug 28, 2012 10:22 am Hi gwu69, Have you tried Ravida? http://www.ravida.com.au/luxury-homes.html They have some gorgeous FP style homes, and I remember one going up on Wattletree Rd in Malvern a few years back. Although being custom design they would be pricey. It was my dream to have a FP style home, but it would have looked odd on my block in amongst 1960's brick veneers, so I had to compromise. Next time...maybe! Good luck! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Our FP is going to look a bit odd in our setting too but I don't care. It appeals to us more than the modern more brutalist style that most new houses feature. Gary, we are paying $17,600 per square but we require some extras that will add about $5000 extra. Re: French provincial style 20Aug 28, 2012 2:37 pm We all like provincial style as it would last for decades, but mixed with brick might bring close with our neighborhood. http://www.comdainhomes.com.au/galleries/nth-balwyn.html This is Comdain's style we also like to have. However, We could not keep up with provincial interior due to the cost; we should keep in simple and more practical with energized young childs. Metri#on's provincial facade on its Monarch or Lindrum is another choice if we want to keep in line with the budget. We have to keep in mind that landscaping and other furniture would add in more dollars. Suze, are you happy with the builder and do you have any past works he has done? Thanks, Stormy. I would love to have Ravida's work, but definitely out of our reach. The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1603 |
