Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 222Jan 06, 2015 7:29 am Yes, we were very happy with TCP Concreting. We did purposely go for a plain white concrete driveway rather than something with colours or patterns or stampings; but about $13k or thereabouts seemed a good price given how much driveway we have. They're pebbles rather than crushed granite (I think), and they're rounded to suit my perception of what "pebbles" are. They're very small though, my wife did all the research (of course) but apparently if you get small ones then not much light gets through & there's less chance of anything growing in it. We didn't really compact the pebbles down much, I just walked on it a bit to make it all even. Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 223Jan 06, 2015 6:31 pm Forg Heya! Driveway looks good. Was that 13k? Might give those ppl a call for a quote. We too have a. Big driveway. Ur in ryde council?? If so, how much did they charge u ffor r the driveway lip and did they make it bigger for u? quote="Forg"]Some semi-finished-looking proof of how much unpleasant effort was expended over the break ... the retaining-wall on the downhill side at the front is nearly done, and we've finished-off the spot around the stormwater drain just so something looks "done". The pebbles are in hexagonal lattices also designed for growing grass on driveways so you can drive on it; so they don't end-up at the bottom of the slope. Then the (Grass-Cel I think it's called) lattices are on weed-mat, which is over roadbase we manually compacted with a hand-compacting tool thingy. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k124/originalForg/th_20150106_054051_Landscaping_Started_zpsc93f85ee.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k124/originalForg/th_20150106_054109_retainy_drainy_zpsfd09b560.jpg This replaces a vaguely-mortared-together partially-collapsing brick "wall" that'd been there forever, hopefully the neighbours are happier with it too. Forg mention it was TCP concreting Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 227Jan 07, 2015 5:39 am Great job Forg! Looks fantastic. How big is your driveway? I don't think the quote said exactly the size, just a price. You can see the approximate shape in the picture; the attached garage is probably about 8m back from the fence-line; then beside the garage the driveway is about 10m long at about 3m wide, then where the house gets narrower it's about another 10m long at about 4.5m wide. monalisa, no paving around the house in concrete, we only had them do the driveway. We plan to use either pavers or those little pebbles (or a combo) for our paths. Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 229Jan 07, 2015 5:54 am Thanks Forg. Forg Yes, in Ryde; sorry can't recall what they charged. But yeah they made it a coupla feet wider than it used to be, at our request. Did you do this???:) I would have liked to have seen that here. -Fellow American Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 233Mar 11, 2015 11:14 am No ... I didn't actually have a rocking chair, and sitting on the porch rocking back & forth on a fixed chair just ended-up looking like I had a stomach-ache or something. Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde Area NSW) - Gyprock nearly done 234May 08, 2015 12:51 pm Hi Forg, We are having a dispute with Alkira at the moment with the staircase. I shall have the same as your elegant stair, but get something really ugly back. They said-this is the standard, blahh.. We definitely not happy with the respond . Would you please advise if you modified your stairs? Thanks in advance ! Forg Wow - that's quite a long time to not get at least a draft plan. I'm pretty sure we had ours more quickly than that; yeah, I just found some draft plans from 7th February 2013 - our quotation date is 20th December 2012 - and everything shuts down for 3-4 weeks over Christmas. Anyhoo had a look yesterday - and we have a front door! http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k124/originalForg/th_20140607_093402_New_Front_Door_zps4b568b0a.jpg Also a staircase: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k124/originalForg/th_20140607_093906_New_Staircase_zpsbf3afc84.jpg I really need to see if this new camera 'phone can be adjusted to not take 16:9 photos ... Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 236May 08, 2015 4:29 pm Yeah, ours isn't standard ... we asked for something the same as in the version of deluded's house they have on display at Homeworld 5. Note ours is filled-in underneath, that picture above is from when it was first installed. You wouldn't need it to be filled-in underneath for structural reasons, although the supports might look odd. Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 237May 08, 2015 4:32 pm Hmm well i also asked for the type of stairs as per display .. not sure whether that is what I'm getting I thought i deciphered the requirement correctly but looking at my frames doesn't look like it Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 238May 08, 2015 6:34 pm I think our tender included the cost of the stairs as an estimate ... then we had to ensure we chose exactly the right stuff when we had the staircase meeting with ... Genneral Stairs or similar was it? So we could have muffed it. The main things I wanted, really, were the see-through stringers (if that's the right name for the small poles) rather than having a filled-in section of wall, we wanted wood rather than carpet for the treads & the landings, and also that the landings be rectangular 'cos that makes it less trippy-downy. Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 239May 11, 2015 1:57 pm Really tiny update, because I'm sure someone asked about the retractable screen for the ~4.5m wide set of stackers along the upstairs lounge-room. Now there are 4 panes, so only 3 slide; hence it's about a 3.2m opening. We thought we'd included a retractable fly-screen in the original tender, but somehow at some stage it dropped off the quote; and we didn't notice until we started asking why the screen wasn't installed yet ... Anyhoo, EHI Australia gave us a quote for about $750 or thereabouts. We just haven't given them the go-ahead yet because the aluminium window panels that were damaged by the brickies haven't been replaced yet. That ~$750 is a fair whack cheaper than I thought it was going to be, there weren't as many options when we first started spec'ing windows and I'm pretty sure the thing we first chose was over $5k. Re: Alkira Homes KDR (Ryde NSW) - DIY Landscaping 240May 11, 2015 2:46 pm it's been nearly six months Forg ... and the damage hasn't been fixed? do you mind posting a pic of your GPO and light switches? just wanted to know if you got PDL 600 or Classic C2000 3 6404 Hi, I am looking into doing a KDR in Melbourne and am contemplating using Kialla Homes. I am looking for feedback on them from others who have built with them. 0 13444 |
