Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 17, 2013 1:50 pm hi everyone. We are about to get started looking for a company to build our new home. I was wondering when it comes to getting outdoor stuff done ( like patios and paving) whether the builder is the best person to do it or is it cheaper to wait until the house is finished and get tradespeople in later? Re: What should you get your builder to do? 2Oct 17, 2013 2:03 pm most would say to wait until after te build for paving and patios Re: What should you get your builder to do? 3Oct 17, 2013 2:09 pm Generally if it's an alfresco, get the builder to do it as it will share a roof pitch with the home (never leak) and in most cases, it will share the slab as well. As for the broader question, it depends. What do you want to achieve? reduced cost or reduced inconvenience? They are basically inverse relationships. I.E.: the less your builder does, the more money you will save, but the more you are inconvenienced by having to scout, quote, compare, arrange work to be done to finish. Re: What should you get your builder to do? 5Oct 17, 2013 5:43 pm The other consideration, is if it is your building contract, then it can usually be included as part of your finance. If you do it yourself, you have to save or find the money elsewhere.
