Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 15, 2013 5:01 pm After reading so many other forums I have decided to start my own to keep track and also share the journey of building our first house. My wife and I decided to build our new home at the beginning of this year on a block that we had bought a few years ago. We spent the next month or so looking through numerous display houses to find a design that we liked. We were lucky enough to find a design that we liked at 2 septerate companies, The Cambridge by Home Group WA and The Gateway by New Generation Homes. After another month or so of negotiating we decied to build The Cambridge with Home Group WA. We changed the original plan a little to suit what we wanted, The original plan: http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a594/Adam8226/CambridgeOriginal_zps04fc7fbd.jpg What we came up with (final plans) http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a594/Adam8226/FINALPLANS_zpscd8ee83f.jpg The sand pad for our house finally went down on the 10/10/13 so hopefully the construction stage is alot faster than what we have just been through! Cant wait for our slab!! I am building with HGWA too We are building in baldivis Prestart should be in December. Where are you building? How did prestart go? Re: Cambridge, Home Group WA 3Oct 16, 2013 12:25 am Nice, We are building in Busselton, pre start was pretty quick for us as we did a lot of it through the planning stage. All we had to do at pre start was change/add power point locations and light switches and kitchen set up. We did like that HGWA had the external colours and tile selection separate to pre start!! The process for us was pretty slow during the planning stage, but most people have said that it gets quicker during the construction stage! Let's hope that is true!! Which house design did you choose? I am looking forward to seeing your build! Re: Cambridge, Home Group WA 10Oct 28, 2013 8:45 pm After looking through a few other build threads I'm a bit worried that the wet areas (bathroom, ensuite etc has not been left at a lower level. Any suggestions to why this is? It may be a phone call to check!! Someone might know why Re: Cambridge, Home Group WA 12Oct 29, 2013 2:55 am Congrats Adam We're also building with HGWA, we're just waiting on slab so eagerly looking forward to your updates. Hope it all goes msoothly Re: Cambridge, Home Group WA 13Oct 29, 2013 10:25 am Congrats on the slab.. we are building with HGWA too.. construction has been faster then paperwork thankfully Home Group WA Monte Carlo Timeline on Page 1 Re: Cambridge, Home Group WA 14Oct 30, 2013 12:33 am Congrats on your build! I've been living in my HGWA (still Scott Park when I built with them!) house for a year now and it is still my favourite place in the world. They did an excellent job and though our paperwork part of the build was slow (as has been everyone's!), the built was very quick - 5.5 months from slab to handover! My build thread is below. Good luck! Your plan is beautiful! Re: Cambridge, Home Group WA 15Nov 18, 2013 5:33 pm Bricks, windows, door frames and steal beams were finally delivered to the block last week and the brickies were supposed to start today (18th). Hopefully we get a nice suprise when we go and have a look today after work to see some walls started!! It would be very nice to have something start when HGWA say it is going to start!! We will see! We also had our site supervisor meeting to check everything at the site was as it was supposed to be. Im looking forward to swwing the progress now and hopefully it gets done as quick as possible. We are so far behind some friends that had pre start at the same time, they now have had their roof finished. They are building with another builder!!! The brickies were only there one and a half days because of the rain we had on Friday!! By the looks of the forecast this week they should get a full week in. http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a594/Adam8226/IMG_0727_zpsbe00c895.jpg http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a594/Adam8226/IMG_0726_zps7ed4d784.jpg Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Home Group WA Cambridge Building Thread..... https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67671&p=1089089#p1089089 Re: Cambridge, Home Group WA 19Jan 10, 2014 3:07 pm It has been a while since an update but obviously the Cristmas and New Year break was a hloiday for all the trades and HGWA. The brickwork was finished on the 20th of December which was the last day of work before Christmas. With the construction department reopening at HGWA on the 6th of Jan we spoke to the CLO to get a date for when we can expect the roof carpenters top be at our house. All the timber has been ordered and will be delivered on the 15th of Jan with work to start on the 16th. Im not going to hold my breath for that date, but im happy to be proven wrong. We have also been given a date for when the house is due to be handed over. At this stage it will be ready to be handed over on the 30th of April. I will post some photos of the brickwork and layout of the house in a few days.
