Was surprised to see how small one of the windows was when looked on our final plans they had made it much smaller than on draft plans. Could kick myself that we missed this. Too much searching and correcting that in the end you can not see the forest for the trees. Also found out the main bathroom has an ordinary shower rose attached to the wall and not a rail shower. The extra word added "Deluxe" made all the difference. I know we would not have opted for a fixed shower rose as need at least one detachable hose to rinse the shower area - like we have in the ensuite with our Caroma Track shower. Will have to sort out with a decent one post build. Spent afternoon pouring over the 25 pics we got trying to decipher some of them. We then got an email from our CL saying our SS had been trying to sort out some of the alfresco with the drafting dept to make it was neater. I see they have taken away a couple of our bush poles out the back . They also gave us a detailed drawing of our gable window. Something we had not had in our final plans only a red pencilled in drawing on front elevation . Prior to signing the final contract we had asked if we could possibly change the rectangular front loft window with a gabled one that would fit in much better. No problems says RI .......or so we thought. They inform us today that the loft ceiling will cut the window in half leaving only the rectangular part visible inside and the top part stuck in the apex of the roof. No mention of this before. We thought ceiling was cathedral. Tell me the why would we pay over a thousand dollars to upgrade a window that you can only see half of and to access it we would have to go thu the manhole in the loft. On the outside it will just show the inside of the roof- not a nice look. I am not at all happy with this. Could they have not informed us that the window would be unsuitable. We had enquired if it was possible not demanded the window. Feels so impersonal just another number in the system- just pay the money. Tempted to in future sign off all emails with our job number instead of my name. Sorry needed to let off some steam. Shame about the bush pole DH informs me our job is to seal all ours this weekend, sigh. I'm with you re the loft window, it does make a nice feature why couldn't someone mention it to you? Here's hoping it all gets sorted out soon! Cheers viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 26Nov 09, 2013 2:23 am Good luck with the sealing of your bush poles. We will have to coat ours with a fire retardant. Have written to RI to see if they have a solution to the problem. Hopefully something can be sorted out. Part of the ceiling over the stairwell will be altered to accommodate the window. So happy about that. Thought they could have been a little more gracious in their reply, but as I thought just another conveyor belt job. Maybe a bit peeved as we sent our independent building inspectors email stating that the gable window as is ,was unacceptable. Not really enjoying my build at the moment and wished we had sold block and bought established house - would have been cheaper. Could have already moved in and missed the cyclone season up here as well. Hang in there I think from reading a lot of threads most people go through a feeling remorse at some stage of their build. But at the end of the day when your living I'm your beautiful home you will love it and it will all seem worthwhile viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 30Nov 12, 2013 6:52 am Thanks AKB I am sure you are right. Good news! Nice neat bricks - and maybe the kitchen window will look more like you were hoping once cabinets Etc go in? We were like you / took ages to make decisions - and I still feel like I missed things/shoulda done them differently! it really is a mind boggling process. Sometime I go through all the old emails from RI and I realise how many big decisions we made in such a small time. Then I realise I need to give myself a break and stop being so hard on myself for little mistakes! Haha Can't wait to see that window now! Looks excellent! Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 32Nov 12, 2013 10:45 pm Yes it is indeed mind boggling process asj25. Glad to hear that you too to some time to make decisions. Our prestart is a bit of a blur to be honest. A 14 hour drive down to Perth. Drop the dog off pitch the camper trailer as my mum already had people staying. Drive to Bunbury the next day to be ready bright and early for following days prestart- at least slept in a proper bed My health has been very poor for a number of years so expanding that much energy was already enough. The water used for washing your hands is then recycled to the cistern for flushing. They had similar in Japan when I was there as a student over 15 years ago!! Thought they were a great idea, though their basin at the too was larger. Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 37Nov 13, 2013 8:13 pm Love the toilet I remember the first time I saw them at the greenhouse in perth I made sure everyone on our table got up and went to the toilet quick smart lol viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 38Nov 13, 2013 11:49 pm AKB Love the toilet I remember the first time I saw them at the greenhouse in perth I made sure everyone on our table got up and went to the toilet quick smart lol Building in Myalup with Redink PCQ : Nov 2012 Prestart: 17 th March 2013 Builders Permit: Sept 2013 Completed build Aug 2014 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67559 Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 39Nov 17, 2013 3:41 pm Hi Jibs I can somewhat understand your frustration at building from afar...and we are no way anything as far away as you!! I hope the SS will do all he can to reassure you at all stages of the build, don't let the window thing put you off. Non standard stuff always seems to go wrong. I'm hoping we don't have too much of that ourselves...but you just have to be prepared. They are so used to looking at the same old plans all the time but if your SS is proactive that is a great thing. Have you had a meeting with him and gone over your plans with a fine toothcomb so there is no more misunderstandings? Maybe you can arrange to do that even if it's just by telephone? Building a house, even with project builders, is very detailed work. If you missed something when you checked and rechecked you are not alone, most of us will put our hand up! : Great spot you have chosen Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 40Nov 18, 2013 2:38 am Thanks Treesachanger. No have not met up with SS but have contacted him about a few things that our independent inspector has come up with. He seems a nice guy and very willing to quickly get things sorted. Hopefully down for Xmas so get to look at our house in progress . Maybe can go somewhere on holiday after so can be back mid January for meet up. Would like to be able to met up with tiler too before maybe my husband Jan can fly down though can be up to a thousand for return flight and then car hire to get south. Maybe better to save the money to put towards after build expenses.
