Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1201Jul 22, 2015 8:49 pm Nothing surprises me . I had my carpet done through redink and I do remember the carpenters coming back to sand down doors .my ss said we were lucky we had done it at lock up stage . The lady around the corner I think had a similar issue she ended up slopping it . A lot of people seem to have problems when laying wooden type floor boards because of the slab not being level . Should we have to pay for it .no but the problem is we don't pick it up to we get handover . Then it becomes harder . Don't give up and do your research then go back to redink . But sometimes even how fxcked as its is . You might have to fix it yourself .because believe me you could be waiting awhile . Good luck ardie Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1202Jul 23, 2015 5:35 am ardie so glad to hear you had a lovely break - and so sorry to hear you come back to more issues. I have no idea re the doors sorry. But I LOVE your chairs they look great! Are they also comfy?? Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1203Jul 24, 2015 1:05 am Hey ardie! Lovely to hear your news and sorry re dramas to come home to. Your stools are gorgeous. I really like them. As for the door issue we had to get nearly all our doors removed and planed when our carpet went in. Didnt take the carpenter long and it only cost us a dressed lamb and a few bucks! I know, you'll all be trying to imagine the oufit the sheep was wearing!!Haha! Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1204Jul 24, 2015 10:29 am Sorry to hear about the dramas regarding doors Ardie! We will have the same issue I think! I hope you manage to sort it out with them!!!! Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1205Jul 24, 2015 1:31 pm Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the feedback. Looks like we may be on our own and this is sort of the norm. One more bill to pay Just another annoyance I guess. The drawback to not getting a fully turnkey house. To those of you looking for building advice, do seriously consider having the builder do EVERYTHING! We didn't even know it was an option to have Redink do our flooring and our salesman talked us out of having Redink do our painting and other finishing off stuff. We dropped the paving midway through the build in hopes of saving time and getting into our house sooner, but that didn't pan out Though it costs more, I'm starting to think it might have been worth it for some stuff instead of the headache of coordinating all the post handover stuff. Depends I guess if you have the time to do it. Juggling work, family, and post handover has been challenging. That said, I love our floors, the tile looks awesome and I smile every time I look at our dark bamboo. It's seriously gorgeous. Once the door situation is sorted I will be even more in love Our paving has turned out pretty well too, especially love the travertine. Glad hubby convinced me on that one. We just need to decide what we want to do with our front wall and pillars. Planning to put in fence slats. We'd thought that we would have it rendered, but just saw a house nearby that put stone cladding on theirs and it looks really cool. Not sure which is the cheaper option. Now we have decorating decisions to make and this is supposed to be the fun part. I'm hopeful that the day when the stress of building feels worth it will come soon And yes MalSannie the chairs are very comfortable! Got them from http://www.replicafurniture.com.au/ The guys are building our IT Nook cabinetry as we speak so I'll get photos this weekend. OMG, I saw the guys put in the stone benchtop yesterday and I thought it was going to kill them. It was SUPER heavy and one of them almost dropped it, other guy was balancing it on his neck, it was quite the production, but looks pretty. Even though the top is 3 m, it needed a join because of the awkwardness of the location. The join will be just behind the sliding door for the cabinet so not noticeable anyway, but they did a superb job on making it practically invisible. I've seen some really bad ones on this forum and was just a wee bit nervous. Happy Friday! Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1206Jul 24, 2015 2:29 pm I actually had redinks carpenter at my place yesterday morning adjusting a door - should have sent him on to your place! That door didn't close at all though, carpet wasn't in yet, and he just adjusted the hinges rather than needing to plane anything. He also added the little rubber doorstops that were missed before - though apparently they don't do one between the bathroom door and the shower screen, which led to a slightly snarky reply email to my CLO... Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1207Jul 24, 2015 10:46 pm Sorry about your dramas ardie. I can understand wanting the builder to do everything, I'm tempted to get them to do some of our stuff too so I don't have to deal with it, the handover list is long enough! Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1208Jul 25, 2015 12:03 am Saw a truck at your place kash, wish I'd known it was the carpenter Did your flooring go in today? Are you moving in this weekend? Yes the post handover list was long. A blur really those first few weeks. Then we went away, so it was actually great taking a break from house stuff and re - prioritising. I think the only major thing left is the landscaping. Hopefully only a couple more weeks until it gets done. This week was exciting. Now that our driveway has finally had the second coat of sealant and dried I got to 1) actually park in a garage for the first time in 5 years and 2) bring groceries directly into the house and not run through the rain The computer nook, complete with the 'hidden hutch' was completed today and we're super happy with how it turned out. It really changes the whole room for the better. Looks great and i love your hidey hutch- very clever! The front of your home looks absolutely gorgeous. You have done a fantastic job with your colours etc. Really lovely. Its seriously crazy trying to coordinate your post handover trades, especially coz your the chaos in your everyday life doesnt stop to accomodate it!! Nearly did my head in!!! Just keep lots of lists and beverages handy and you will get through it! ! Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1210Jul 25, 2015 1:09 am Your IT hidey hole is a great idea! I don't think I really understood what you meant when you first mentioned it, but now I wish I'd thought of it! Your kitchen is really lovely, so warm and welcoming Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1211Jul 25, 2015 1:31 am The nook looks great Ardie and your house looks like a home now Our build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77196 Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1212Jul 25, 2015 2:36 am Ardie I'm SO jealous of that IT nook and router hide-away and I see the magnetic board works well too - what a great idea! The driveway and front retaining etc looks fantastic - I guess those pillars with slats will be pretty expensive? I love the look. You've done a shedload of things in such short time and it is paying off it looks wonderful Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1213Jul 26, 2015 9:23 am Love the IT nook! What a great idea! It all looks great Ardie! Well done, you have done soooo much in such a short time! Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1214Jul 30, 2015 12:24 am Oh Ardie it all looks fantastic. I love the kitchen and dining pendants. Sorry to hear about the dramas but it sounds like your break has given you a bit of perspective. Our doors are due to be done over the next week or so. We've already ordered our floor so I think I'll be onto Carpet Court tomorrow for those measurements!! Seems like not much new to report. Sadly the few extra months of unplanned rent put a dent in our decorating/furniture budget so will take some time before it's all done. Luckily we had quite a bit that we could still keep and use in the meantime. Trying to get our front wall rendered and am striking out with getting someone. First one flaked, second one hurt his back, one quote was insane! Getting another quote this week but if anyone has someone they could recommend at a reasonable price please, please let me know. Between weather and illness I think we've finally got block ready for landscaping. Site inspection hopefully this week and then install in approx 3. Really wish we'd gotten it done sooner. This rain would have helped. Our attempt at passive solar design has been pretty successful. We've turned on heat for a few short bursts first thing in the morning (what a fantastic treat! ) but for the most part the house, well the northern half, is perfectly comfortable all day and night. Amazing the temp difference between the northern and southern halves of the house. Super glad we added so many doors despite the headaches they've caused. Also so much wonderful natural light. It's such an amazing change from our freezing in the winter/oven in the summer dark cave we were living in!!! Ok some pictures just because Our bedroom is mostly done. Had the furniture already, though dresser is a bit too long and covers curtains a tad. We put up a little bit of artwork throughout the house, some of our local faves. More will go up once we find it in the storage/4th bedroom Master bedroom with our patio Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front hallway Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Living and dining (still hunting for the perfect and affordable rug!) I don't think hubby has twigged yet how much they cost either, he's going to freak I can tell. Great to hear the passive solar design is working out, great win there! Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1218Aug 21, 2015 4:46 am Ardie that looks so lovely sorry I've only just seen this! I'm having a bit of a mare at work at the minute so not getting the time on here that I'd like. I love how your telly doesn't have any wires too and I'm jealous of your beautiful large and light floor tiles they look gorgeous! I must admit I didn't realise you were planning to render the walls to the front, I'd have left it as it is I think it looks great Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1219Aug 21, 2015 10:38 am Ardie it all looks lovely! I hear you on the money front. We've got to that stage where we've almost paid all the installments (only handover to go!!) and are paying rent. I'm seriously hoping that we only have to be in the rental for one month whilst we pay full mortgage otherwise the post handover budget is going to suffer!
