I hope you're well. Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1197Jul 22, 2015 5:15 pm Hi all, just back from 3 weeks in the States visiting family. It was wonderful and it was really nice taking break from house stuff. Feels like it was dominating life there for a while. Now we're back and feeling somewhat refreshed. Malsannie, yes the stools have arrived and we love them! Thank you for the suggestion. I'll post pics soon. The IT Nook installation is starting tomorrow and should be done by the end of the week. Also all of our assorted paving projects are finally completed so now we can submit our landscaping stuff. Can't wait to have a yard. We're slowly getting furnishings. We've got the main pieces but need rugs, coffee table, front hall console table, lights, artwork etc. I think we finally have a vision of how we want it to come together, but finding the right pieces at the right price is taking time. Eventually... The bigger issue is getting the outstanding items by the builder completed. It's confusing as to what they should fix now and what falls under the 6 months maintenance, but there are a handful of items they've agreed to fix now and hopefully that will happen in the next week or two. I do have a major issue with them at the moment and am hoping for some advice before I really lose it. Redink did all of the wet area tiling. We had bamboo flooring installed after handover. At each of the doors between the wet areas and the wood floor (bathroom, ensuite and laundry room) the bamboo installers tried to install a slim metal transition strip. However the tiling is high and there isn't enough clearance under the doors for the strips to fit and also be able to close the door. So right now we have two doorways with a big gaping hole between the wood and the tile and the third one has the strip installed but we can't shut the door properly as the door rubs up against it. The doors just need to be planed down a bit to add clearance. Redink says they won't do it, "The doors are supplied and if required the owner is to organise adjustment to suit their owner supplied flooring." This seems ridiculous to me that they could provide us with a house that we can't finish the flooring on. Why should we have to pay a carpenter to sand down the doors that they provided? We have accepted many imperfections in the house and it seems like a pretty easy thing for them to fix, especially since they are sending there carpenter to our house to fix another door issue. Am I overreacting? Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice? I'm waiting for a call back from our building inspector to get his advice. Re: Redink SOR First time builders-The end has arrived! 1199Jul 22, 2015 6:35 pm Congrats ardie, it's looking great! Happy that you have reached the end and hope the builder will fix the items that they need to. We are installing our own floors after handover and the door clearance issue was a worry. Our builder asked us to supply the thickness of the flooring (vinyl plank) that we were using and we have done that. Fingers crossed, the supplied doors would have the necessary clearance. However, we did ask what happens if not and were told that we'd probably have to get the doors modified ourselves. I'm eager to see how this goes, but hopefully the clearances will be alright. They don't have a standard floor height clearance it just seems to be whatever is installed you deal with and have to adjust yourself. We still haven't got around to doing ours but really need to! I would recommend asking the carpenter that is coming around if they will do them while they are there for cash.
