Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 06, 2013 9:21 pm Hello, Hoping someone might be able to provide some advice. We are building a 2 storey home. We have chosen a dark brick, there is allot going on with the façade. Render/stackstone/cladding and brick. I have chosen all my colours but am so confused about the windows. Should I go dark or light? Here are the colour selections. Roof/gutter/downpipes - Monument Fascia - Dune Eaves - Surfmist Bricks - Bluesteel flash PGH bricks Render and Cladding - Dune Garage Door Woodlook to match front door. Now my problem - should the windows be Dune, Surfmist or Monument??? Re: Exterior colours - SO CONFUSED! 2Oct 07, 2013 12:43 am Personally, I'd change the fascia to surfmist and have surfmist windows, but if you really wanted to keep the Dune fascia I'd have Dune windows. I chose dark windows for our new build and it's probably the only thing I regret. The other thing to possibly consider is your window coverings. If you intended on having light coloured blinds or shutters then I would again prefer Surfmist or Dune over Monument. Re: Exterior colours - SO CONFUSED! 5Oct 07, 2013 11:33 am I just worked out how to post a pic - YAY! Anyway this is the elevation, the garage door is one large single door not 2 as shown in the pic, I can post an actual pic of the stack stone we have chosen, its brown and grey (hoping it would match up with the bricks). I am leaning towards lighter windows, So dune or surfmist. The only problem with Dune is the cladding will also be dune, will this look strange? I felt the surfmist windows up against the dune cladding would be nicer. Any opinions are welcome! Will dune or surfmist match your trim paint colours and your window coverings That has to be considered too? Hi Emy, We (I) chose Woodland Grey for our windows because I was worried Surfmist would look to stark, but I now feel the Woodland Grey windows are to dark with our bricks and dark roof and can look a little drab. The other reason is because we ended up putting white shutters throughout the house and although you can't really see the windows internally, I'm not a fan of the contrast of the shutters against the windows externally. We ended up changing the colour of one section of render and our garage door to Surfmist after handover to balance out the darkness. Mimi Re: Exterior colours - SO CONFUSED! 11Oct 07, 2013 8:17 pm Thanks everyone for your feedback. Its definitely going to be between surfmist and dune. I would prefer surfmist as it will go with my internal colours but dune because I believe it will look better externally.
