Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 03, 2013 10:41 pm I thought I might start a thread on the second new home build I am currently involved in in Burns beach....
No we didnt just win Lotto and building two houses at the same time. We are building our home in Burns with Dale Alcock and we all (kids, dog, cat and fish)have been living with my folks since xmas and will be throughout the build. Well my parents decided they love our area and have just bought a block a couple of roads away!! Just when I thought we only had 6 months or so left of living back at home - PAYBACK! They will be moving in with us when our home is ready around March until their home is built So its been back to visiting every display home north to south and spending hours pouring over various designs. I have been very involved and trying to give them all the advice and wisdom I have learned from this process. After having a couple of designs costed up with various builders they have finally settled on a version of "The Rivello" with Home group WA. The block is 483 sqm with a 16m frontage. It has been a bit tricky as it is rear access and wider/bigger than a normal rear access block so customisation of a plan was necessary. It has been a bit stressful finding the right one but lots of fun to do it all again. Pre-start with them will be great this time as its not my money being spent They are still tweaking the design but I thought I would post the floorplan as I know how fantastic you all are with your helpful feedback and comments Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Burns Beach build no. 2 - Home Group WA 2Oct 04, 2013 3:40 pm Ha! Your parents will be able to learn from your mistakes. You can be their 'building consultants'. I love the plan. I'd probably get rid of the bath in the ensuite and increase general space and storage. It's little too cramped for me, especially with how close the sinks are together (plus there's another bath already in the house). I'd also want to put a door on the laundry. Building with Dale Alcock Homes in Aveley Our thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63880 And yes, my pants are indeed fancy. Re: Burns Beach build no. 2 - Home Group WA 3Oct 04, 2013 7:27 pm Looking good!! How lucky that they can have help from someone who has only just built looks like a good use of space. Agree about the door on the laundry and also the bath in the ensuite. If its going to stay I'm not sure I'd have the double vanity as you end up with no bench space. Could possibly put one large sink in instead? Unless there is a reason I would also consider extending the island bench closer to the sliding door out to alfresco. There seems to be a lot of space, 1m or just a little over a 1m would still make it comfortable to get past but increase bench space And my usually comment of swapping the glass sliding door in the laundry to a standard door I'd also consider furniture placement. Would they want to have a TV in the main living area? A friend of mine has a similar layout and they have some problems with how to place their couch etc in the space. Good luck!! Appreciate the feedback Good spot with the laundry door, I don't know how I missed that. They will be sure to add the door in. Thanks so much for the feedback My mum is a bit like me must have a big bath in ensuite! That is a really good idea though to have a single larger basin in the vanity for more bench space. I have passed on all the comments and they are going to go into the showroom and have a look at measurements to see what their options are. The vanity is 1.4m long so it's not that tiny, think the plan is just showing basins as being huge! I would also extend the kitchen bench some but think budget is an issue and extra stone can be pricey. Thanks again for all your feedback Re: Burns Beach build no. 2 - Home Group WA 6Mar 11, 2014 12:02 pm Hi, we extended the bench so it meets up with the window (and raised the brickwork so the window is level with the bench) and moved the sink and dishwasher recess closer to the window. This gave us room for a couple more cupboards for storage and heaps more bench space. I can't remember the cost but most of it was on the extra cupboards and the stone bench extension wasn't that expensive Re: Burns Beach build no. 2 - Home Group WA 7Jul 21, 2014 4:53 pm Hi +Tbrown2012, Thanks for sharing your experience so far with the build. Hope everything is going well! Re: Burns Beach build no. 2 - Home Group WA 8Sep 11, 2014 6:58 pm Hi All, I haven't updated this thread with my folks build as nothing much to report since October last year!! Unfortunately they have had numerous delays but slab went down on the 16th July!! I have been following Marcia's build with interest as I believe our timelines are even longer! 8 weeks from slab but the GOOD news is they have a brickie who started this week. BAD news is that he is on his own one brick at a time .... At the start of the journey they had been told they would be in tier home oct/nov this year - doubt it! However they have decided not to dwell on the negative and no matter how frustrating it is to see this poor one man band building their home, they are remaining positive and hope things pick up and go smoothly from now on. Must say don't think I would have been able to hold it together and remain as positive if I were in their position. Having just completed our build with DAH a few months ago have resisted the temptation of saying maybe should have gone with my recommendation! One other thing which I fail to understand is the inflexibility HGWA have in regards to variations. My mum would like to change her splashback and been met with a resounding NO! After all the flexibility and patience they have shown it is disappointing that this can't be reciprocated. I made 12 variations with DAH! I am sure in the future HGWA are going to change their policy on this surely! ??? Anyway hopefully I can update you with their progress when bricks are finished 4-5 weeks away and share with you some of their lovely pre-start selections. I know how fantastic all the H1ers were with my build. My mum follows the forum too constantly just not much of a poster ) Re: Burns Beach build no. 2 - Home Group WA 9Sep 11, 2014 7:55 pm Hello tbrowns mum , I too made heaps of changes . I would keep.at them for the change of splash back tile .never give up . Always be nice and polite .maybe email dylan on here form hgwa . He may be able to help you . Its nothing big to change . They say we should listern to our parents sometimes parents need to listern to us lol . But obversley your parents loved hgwa plan . Maybe I told you so will come later lol . But seriously the plan looks great and if there interior decorating is anything like yours .everyone should watch this space . Good luck to tbrowns parents .wishing you all the best with your build .oh you too tbrown .( all the building talk all over again ) he he Re: Burns Beach build no. 2 - Home Group WA 10Sep 11, 2014 9:41 pm Hey TBrown and Tbrown's mum .... I completely understand the frustration with the delays. I'm loving your attitude, you have a heck of a lot more patience than me. And I 100% agree about the inflexibility with variations - the only thing I can reason on that is they are so far behind on their build list it is the only thing they can control and don't want to add further delays. That said though, I'm sure if something needed changing from their end, the variations would come thick and fast. Hang in there, I've seen some single person brick team(s) whip out a house pretty quickly. They seem to have a good process that works for them and they have no one else to hold them up. A bricky is better than no bricky, fingers crossed he isn't too slow. Re: Burns Beach build no. 2 - Home Group WA 11Sep 12, 2014 10:20 am Hi and welcome back again.
