Browse Forums Building A New House Re: onlot234: we're in :) 741Dec 14, 2014 5:20 pm We had family stay a few days after handover.. a rush to get all the bedrooms ready but kinda great too because then we were done with the main set-up of furniture. So I think having a party is cool, you get to really use and enjoy your house straight up!! Re: onlot234: we're in :) 742Dec 14, 2014 7:51 pm Oh Trees it was fun ... But there are marks on the wall, the couch, scratches on the fridge... Can anyone recommend a way to remove marks on walls? Some are dirt, others are like fingerprints so have oil.. We had a whole heaps of kids. I'm ok with it but I still would like to clean it ofd --- Re: onlot234: we're in :) 743Dec 14, 2014 10:18 pm Oh teehee didn't realise you'd had it already!! Those magic eraser thingies (like a little block of foam stuff, made by chux I think) are good for dirty fingermarks and oily marks. If that doesn't work, maybe sugar soap? Re: onlot234: we're in :) 746Dec 15, 2014 10:44 pm That's why we always hire local council hall for such big parties. My wife would have heart attack in such circumstances, lol. We're onto our 10th day in and we finally got internet! Opticomm were apparently lagging in their connections due to busy time. All good got it now. So where do I begin!? It's difficult to keep things clean, we have an empty block next door and open across the road to the left, so the wind blows a lot of dust into the house. I've spent so much $ on things we found out we needed but never budgeted for. I still love my floors! Our standard tiles are so good too, chose non-gloss and the matt version almost acts like a non-slip surface. Love the layout of the home. Is opticomm an internet provider? I've never heard of them.. That's one thing I'm dreading! The dust! I'm also dreading when they decide to start building! Do tell about these extra costs because we have no clue what we're walking into.. The fridge looks so grand! It's huge! Ohhh I love your tap! What did you do with the other one? Is opticomm an internet provider? I've never heard of them.. That's one thing I'm dreading! The dust! I'm also dreading when they decide to start building! Do tell about these extra costs because we have no clue what we're walking into.. The fridge looks so grand! It's huge! Ohhh I love your tap! What did you do with the other one? Hi! Opticomm is fibre optics - in lay mans terms meaning my terms, it's similar to NBN and is available now to us because of our estate, vs NBN which isn't available yet. The speed is faster than what I'm used to, but we're talking milliseconds? Either way I'm just glad to have Internet again!!! Gave the old tap to in-laws. Sorry haychhh, but once I replace our front door handle you'll be the first I ask if you wanna arrange to have it our new tap is perfect, not too bulky not too flimsy. Got it at Masters on special usually $200 down to $148. The fridge.. Is a beast! Looks like we hardly have anything in the freezer coz there's so much space still. Yep the dust is nuts - you know how we had a mini wind storm a few days ago? It completely covered our driveway and front area so we high-pressured hosed it all down! Was fun til I got tired and also started thinking about how much water that cost me --- Re: onlot234: we're in :) 752Dec 19, 2014 11:40 pm jillybug Love your fridge!!! What are the extra things you did not budget for? Please share so that I can be prepared when my time comes as I have no idea what ****** ahead of me I love it too, it still has all the stickers and plastic on some shelvings, waiting for the day that we'll need all the space in the fridge before I take them all off. So things I didn't budget for, I didn't know I had to, or knew I should have but didn't coz the build ended up being 4.5 months instead of my anticipated 8 months, or I just decided I wanted it right then and there and not later, etc: * Opticomm connection fee * Paying full fence instead of 50% * Build side gate * Microwave * Kettle * All dishwashing needs * All washing machine needs * All toilet and cleaning needs * Rolls of non-slip stuff for drawers * Indoor and outdoor brooms * Mop * Placemats * Concreting side of house * TV unit Now half these things are trivial or should have waited, or could have used old ones... But I got so carried away esp with the bbq 4 days after, that I just said stuff it buy it all new! We also weren't supposed to get our dining set until after xmas but oh well! --- Re: onlot234: we're in :) 753Dec 19, 2014 11:43 pm H1 you house is looking great. It's impressive how quickly you guys are settling in. Our neighbors moved in on 7th Dec and NBN given them installation date for 7th January. That's a trouble which can't be fixed till neighbors will be ready to move in. We have empty block right next door and no idea when they'll commence. It's a pain as you have a solution. don't worry about water, gas and electricity going up by 10% pretty soon. Re: onlot234: we're in :) 754Dec 19, 2014 11:46 pm Just to let you know, it's much cheaper to buy water filter for your fridge from overseas on eBay. I normally buy them from a uk based seller (lot of 4). One filter lasts approx 6 months. It costs about $15 each. Here shops sell them around $50-$60 each. Re: onlot234: we're in :) 756Dec 20, 2014 6:34 am Ohh we have fibre optic stuff, I wonder if Arnold's creek has nbn because it's older then peppermint grove.. Haha that's okay because now I'm on the hunt for a tap like yours & I'm going to masters to see if they still have it on sale! That's an awesome price! Was it hard to change over or did you get a plumber in? Ahhhh your the best! I have no idea what our front door handle looks like but I'm sure it'll be ugly, my friends is.. It really is an awesome fridge! That wind was crazy, I'm just trying not to think about the dust, my partner on the other hand is a neat freak so it'll drive him insane (like do neat his 4x4 hasn't seen dirt let alone mud) Ahahaha I wouldn't worry about costs! Pressure washers don't use much water anyway We'll that list is super handy!! I've allowed for some of that but not all, I spose it's lucky we only got all of our appliances 1 yr ago or less. Thanks for that list!! Will be taking those things into account now..
