Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We're not the wealthiest out there, so we bought an outdoor kitchen we can afford. Maybe the next house can have the built-in fancy version - for the next few years we hope this BBQ will make us full and satisfied! And Hubby doesn't have to fry or cook anything that sticks onto the house walls coz I can just send him outside to cook Does anyone know if I have to buy/install a range hood when a bbq is placed in a 3-sided alfresco? --- Re: onlot234 - beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 370Oct 21, 2014 4:54 am Woah that huge! Oh thanks for this! You have a smoke alarm out in the alfresco that's setting off, or your mean the one closest to the alfresco doors? --- Re: onlot234 - beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 373Oct 21, 2014 9:19 am Congrats on the bbq. I would say that you will need an exctractor fan otherwise your alfresco will be full of smoke the whole time. I would say that you will need an exctractor fan otherwise your alfresco will be full of smoke the whole time. Thanks burns, can I pick your brain further? Would a ceiling fan at a decent speed be sufficient, or would that just push smoke back down, and not out of the alfresco? I assume the latter, but just seeking alternatives from a bolted down rangehood. Sizing of our alfresco is 4.58m x 3.06m, BBQ will go on wall where gas and water points are (on left of this image): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ --- Re: onlot234 - beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 375Oct 21, 2014 1:01 pm I don't think a ceiling fan would help much, but if you got a normal fan and mounted it on the wall and pointed it in the direction you want the smoke to go then that would help blow it out, at least it won't be trapped in the alfresco area. I prefer either to have the bbq not under the alfresco area or an extractor fan because otherwise you are just going to end up with smoke in your faces no matter what you really try. Re: onlot234 - beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 377Oct 23, 2014 10:46 am trixee I suspect there are some regulations around outdoor kitchens these days regarding extractor fans, might pay to check with your council. Thanks trixee - I did just that this morning, council looked over our plans whilst I waited on the phone, and he had no concerns about the bbq being in the alfresco. There are no regulations. And given the opening of alfresco is wide and our ceiling height is higher than standard, so long as we get the bbq professionally installed to the gas connections then we should be fine - it's just the cosmetic effects of the smoke to our ceiling that the BBQ would cause if there was no rangehood installed. I was quoted $3500 to install and provide a custom built rangehood. That costs twice as much as the actual BBQ! --- Re: onlot234 - beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 378Oct 23, 2014 7:49 pm Good news then, aside from that quote! Sheesh! Should be able to get it done for less than that! I would have thought a normal range hood would have been OK. Re: onlot234 -Kitchen and paint and doors oh my!
