Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 27, 2013 10:56 am Hi all, I am looking to build a new home and am hoping that people can share their opinions/ advice on what to upgrade when building a new home. What are your must haves? What would be worth leaving out and doing ourselves? Thanks in advance Re: New House Upgrades ?? 2Sep 27, 2013 11:16 am I say this to everyone who asks. I think the best upgrade you can have is to have higher ceilings... 2730mm ceilings is the best change we made it adds so much volume to the house and obviously cant be done later. I think no matter what home we build again in the future it will be a definite first pick! Re: New House Upgrades ?? 3Sep 27, 2013 11:24 am Have to agree with the high ceilings. I would also add aircon plus anything else that is going to difficult to install after handover like lighting to the ground floor if building double storey. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: New House Upgrades ?? 4Sep 27, 2013 12:01 pm Agree on higher ceilings Other things to consider- - insulation - what is included, and would you like more? - windows - are there enough windows for cross-ventilation? - powerpoints/electrical - generally difficult to make changes after handover (ie the light points, obviously fittings you can do later) - kitchen - benches, size, drawers, etc check this thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=5823&start=620 Re: New House Upgrades ?? 5Sep 27, 2013 8:04 pm I'm getting the builder to do the following: - plumbing for fridge ( many fridges with water / ice dispensers need it ) - electrical junction boxes for future garden lighting / pond - placement of fresh water tap outside for future sink in alfresco - gas point located where you might but a fancy gas heater in the future - exhaust fan ( thermostat-controlled ) under stairs, useful if you have networking equipment etc under stairs - cctv connection points for outdoor security cameras ( crime has been a recent issue with the area I am in ) Build thread: here Land Nov 12, Contract 6/07/13, Consent 15/08/13, Start 20/09/13, Slab 25/09/13, Frame 4/10/13, Brick 21/10/13, Roof 2/11/13, Lock-up 17/12/13, Handover 3/3/14 Re: New House Upgrades ?? 6Sep 27, 2013 9:20 pm Upgrades would be.... 1) high ceilings (c/w higher doors, cupboards, etc.) 2) Air conditioning 3) plenty of storage 4) a garage that you can park two cars side by side and open there doors without hitting the walls 5) smart/data cabling throughout the house The rest comes down to personal choice......but before worrying about upgrades I'd want to make sure that the house is designed and situated on the block to suit local prevailing conditions before trying to compensate for a poor site/layout with extra insulation/AC's etc. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Yes well there solution is to blame everyone else while I a 65yr old woman with major medical problems have to just continue to boil water and wash myself in a bucket… 2 15998 If you make sure all taps inside and out are turned off, what does the water meter show if you leave it for a while. 2 20231 13 6605 |
