Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - ROOF FINISHED! 61Jan 26, 2014 7:31 pm Is looking great. We looked at the 'dunhill' and really like it and then found the old Ivanhoe which I think now is the Houston! Love them both. We are about 4 weeks away from hand over. Were so worry about our alfresco doors being stolen as we have 6 panel cedar doors. They are still there but someone stole the glass laundry door. Very very strange. All the best with the build Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - ROOF FINISHED! 62Jan 27, 2014 1:31 pm Kylie- That's awesome - We received a $900 refund on the temp fencing that we didn't need, so that would have been the perfect amount to upgrade our bricks, oh well! I'm sure they will be fine! stayxtrue - Haha, we just drove past it on the way back from lunch and they were still there, the street is very quiet and the neighbours are great, so we don't think we will have too many problems with thieves getting around (we are one of the last houses on the street to be built), yes the price of land in Melbourne and even the outer-suburbs in crazy - we definitely would not be able to afford a house if we lived in Melbourne, I think Ballarat is great and has everything we need - plus we both work here so win-win. Sambogirl81 - Nice, the Houston is a great plan, we really like that the master is at the back, the only thing stopping us from picking one like that was the configuration of the alfresco as the back of our house is North so wanted as much natural light in the kitchen as possible. People will steal anything that isn't nailed down it seems (or in some cases, is nailed down ) Good luck with handover! Very exciting! Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - ROOF FINISHED! 63Jan 29, 2014 2:19 pm Ahhh yes having a street thats full is a good thing! I am fearing a lot of theft after we have completed our house as we have no one at all behind us and then the 2 blocks next to us are also not building. So our house is extremely exposed. This will mean that we will have to do our fencing asap! Yea its not cheap here, but we should be able to make it work Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - ROOF FINISHED! 64Feb 03, 2014 10:18 am Hi all, haven’t updated for a while so thought I better show some progress photos! The windows and doors are all in (apart from the Bathroom window which didn’t arrive and the front door which is a little too big, but both should be going in at some point…) and the house has been wrapped ready for bricks. We also had the solar panel installed on Tuesday the 27th… The guys arrived when we met our SS onsite for the first time, nice bloke and easy going bloke! Our SS said that our Bricks wouldn’t start until the end of this week (Friday the 7th maybe?) because the brickie was a bit behind doing the other PD house on the street behind us, so a little delay but no big deal. Our bricks arrived on Wednesday so we went down to have a look – We were very worried that they were going to be way too orange (Homestead Buff), they were the one thing we regretted not upgrading (because we really couldn’t afford it). Luckily, they arrived and they don’t look orange at all! More browny colour and we are very very very happy! OK, here are a bunch of pictures! Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - BRICKS ARE HERE! 71Feb 04, 2014 6:15 am I think it depends on the sun light as well. Our bricks seem to be on quite a few houses around the area and I put our brick up to a few and the colours are very much identical. But there will always be slight variations in anything that has colour Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - BRICKS ARE HERE! 72Feb 07, 2014 9:08 am Hi all, quick update but no photos yet.... (maybe tonight). Brickies should have started Today, went there last night and all of their equipment was there, the thingies on the walls to make sure you were laying the bricks straight etc.... So, should be able to see at least some of them laid Tonight! Inside... The heating has all be put in, and appears our external doors have arrived ready for lock up I guess. Our SS said that the electricians will be doing their thing on Monday and Tuesday (10th and 11th) and plaster will start on Thursday (13th) and is supposed to be finished on the 27th. Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - BRICKS ARE HERE! 73Feb 07, 2014 9:21 am Thats great! Once all that starts happening it all goes so so quick! We currently have our plaster in, bricks are almost halfway and kitchen and bathroom cabinets are all installed! Look forward to seeing some more photos! Yeah he said Bricks, Plaster etc will all be finished this month - then Kitchen and cabinets etc first thing in March. Woohoo! Can't wait. But I guess soon we will be locked out! Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - BRICKS ARE HERE! 75Feb 07, 2014 1:30 pm Yes the locked out thing I hate! Wouldnt it be great if they gave us a key so that we could go through when ever we need to? They need to replace one of our doors as it warped in the heat and it doesnt close, so they jam it closed but never locked, so we can usually get in through there, but the new doors came yesterday, so I have a feeling that it will be completely locked up now Re: Porter Davis Dunes 29 - BRICKS ARE HERE! 76Feb 09, 2014 7:31 pm OK all - Here's a cool update! The brickies arrived on Thursday, set up all their stuff and started laying bricks on Friday, they work quick and did nearly the entire side of the house! Earlier in the week, people had been in and installed our heater and heating ducts - but not much else had been done, however along with the bricks on Friday the carpenter had been back and installed our bathroom window (which for some reason wasn't installed with the others), all the external doors.. (front door, garage door, laundry door) , pantry sliding door, and built our bath frame! Unfortunately now however, we are locked out! Oh well, knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Here are some pictures from last week! The last 2 Saturday's we have made our way down to Melbourne to buy a heap load of crap to put in the new place, we've been to Ikea twice, went and picked up a lovely teak coffee table from an ebay seller and yesterday went to the DFO centre at south wharf - it's been an expensive couple of weekends but we have got some really nice things! So we are looking mainly at the moment to get stuff to decorate the 'family' room near the kitchen/dining, we want to go for a retro/industrial kind of look so have been targeting Eames era furniture, we have made some damn good progress and I think we only need 1 or 2 pieces to finish the entire room... So what have we got, and what style do we want to go for? OK, here goes... This is the initial 'style board' that we made a few months ago - we have kept to it pretty well which I will show below.... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So we have picked up retro couch in the style board from Myer during their start of year sale, we got the 3 seater for $1099, usual price is $1700... There are SO many exact copies of this couch at a million other places, this was the cheapest we came across though and decided we better snap it up before the sale ended! Bargain price. It's on order and we are expected to get it on the 8th of April, where it will be stored in our room full of stuff we have bought until we move. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The colour we have chosen, a browny colour rather than the grey as we don't have any grey in our house at all... Next onto the island stools, we found a nice black tolix stool with a bamboo seat online for something like $180 each or so, we were sold on it - then, browsing through the Super A-mart website we found they had brought out a new line with the exact stools that we wanted! $60 each, we snapped up three that day. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The one on the internet... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The ones we got from Super A-Mart Next dining table and chairs... The chairs are white Eames chairs - fairly common and we were able to find 4 of them on gumtree for $100 (bargain!), but we need another 4 to go around our square 8 seater dining table.... which we will go and get from Matt Blatt at some point before we move in. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Nicely stacked and ready to go! lol Now for the dining table... We really do want a custom made, solid, hardwood, awesome dining table ... which we just can't afford yet, but we did manage to find one that was beaten up and gross on gumtree for $100 - an 8 seater solid pine one that needed some TLC, after a few days sanding and staining it, we now have a nice solid 8 seater ready to go for when we move in! The stain is unfortunately much darker than it appeared it was going to be on the container we got, but it should still be a good temporary table (we don't even have a dining table in our current house due to there being no where to put one!) The Big New Era clock from Freedom... we love it and bought it on sale for $130 reduced from $199 in Freedoms start of year sale... They have had to order it in so we should get it to put in our storage room in a week or so. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As seen on The Block NZ (which we downloaded and watched, haha) It's 91cm across by the way... MASSIVE! Now this is where it starts getting really exciting... to go with our retro theme, we wanted to try and get authentic retro pieces, not chipboard things covered with veneer (except for 'authentic' soft furnishes). Luckily, we managed to win an auction on eBay for a great little solid teak coffee table, it's really nice and has a lot of character... we could sand it back and stain it to make it look new, but I really don't think we need to or want to. We picked this up for $102.50 which is a really cheap price for solid furniture from this era. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Solid teak So the last piece of the puzzle that we managed to get yesterday (which I now notice isn't actually on the style board)... We got a Featherston Contour Chair!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Stacked up in our 'new crap' room, not to be sat on until May! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We got the chair for an absolute bargain price of $349 from Plush in DFO South Wharf... The retail price is $700 on this chair, I believe they are discontinuing them, so we scored -it was the colour we wanted too! It was the floor stock, but it is as new condition and was really too good of a price to turn down. Lucky we decided to go shopping again after picking up the coffee table At Ikea last weekend, we got a heap of stuff - a lot of storage solution stuff and not so much designer nice things, we got a small desk to use as a make up station in the walk in robe (for the female portion of the relationship), a row of lights to put above the said desk and mirror (like those ones you see in dressing rooms). We also got some shoe storage bins, a large mirror to put in the hall way, and heaps of storage containers etc... But, we did happen to buy a rug to go into our 'retro' living room, which is the 'Lappljung Ruta'. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also got a few of the 2 types of matching cushions to put on the couch etc, hopefully they look OK! (don't mind the rooster on the green/blue one... that is weird and will NEVER be face up!) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Weird rooster thing, why Ikea - WHY?! OK, last two things.... We have also decided on the pendant lights we shall be putting above the island bench and also in the entrance hall way... they are as follows from Tudo & Co online... (Our SS said we can get the sparky to put them in at handover for us). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We will be having the 6 head light in the hall way obviously, and 3 individual ones above the island… you can see the pricing and other cool lights here if you are so inclined: http://www.tudoandco.com/collections/retro-industrial-ceiling-light/products/6-head-industrial-wire-cage-chandelier We will also be looking at buying an Arco floor lamp for the living room at some point, but I think we may wait until we are in and have the room set up to see exactly how it will fit in the space... but, for those that don't know... they look like this.
