I am so excited to get my first home builded. While searching for termite protection, I found physical barrier type protection is the best "if done correctly" so I asked to my builder to quote on that. My builder has quoted 1700 for termimesh physical barrier ( part A and B) in lieu of reticulation based system which they provide as standard. I am building in Tarneit, Vic (western suburb of Melbourne). It is in termite council boundary. People that I know around the area said termite is not as big here. So I am wondering if I should spend that money to be safer, or is it even safer?
This money is going to be part of my home loan which mean 1700 initial amount + 85 every year added interest + yearly inspection cost (may be around 100). Whereas reticulation system would be 0 initial cost + 200 yearly chemical topup and inspection. So I might be saving 15 dollars with by spending 1700 initially which means payback time is over 100 years.
Is physical protection worth the extra cost in my case? any opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
