Looking forward to seeing it Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 RANGEHOOD WARNING 263Feb 12, 2014 8:10 pm Hey all, Just thought Id write up a quick and friendly warning for all you building out there. Ben went into the roof as he installed whirly birds and found that our rangehood that was fully covered by the insulation. Very dangerous if not discovered as over the time the build up of fat would have caused a fire hazard. So please please check for crappy installation and make sure your one isn't covered. Re: Building the Leon with Simonds Homes in Goolwa North - S 264Feb 13, 2014 7:39 am Holy cr@p. What has Simonds said about the installation? Re: Building the Leon with Simonds Homes in Goolwa North - S 265Feb 13, 2014 8:41 am mjmelb Holy cr@p. What has Simonds said about the installation? This was found after handover. Ben's in SA doing stuff around the house. He had to go up into the roof to install the whirly birds. So yeah imagine his surprise. Our supervisor happen to turn up yesterday to change a door handle and Ben told him about it and the Supervising started accusing him of not knowing what he was talking about. Ben who isn't confrontational told him to listen and not get on the defensive and explained to him step by step what was wrong. The Supervisor then apologized and said he will come back and fix it. And Ben said I fixed it. Supervisor said crap installation. I thought CRAP supervisor who doesn't check workmanship! Mjmelb be HAPPY to know that in Victoria the house you are currently building MUST pass inspection before you are issues with Certificate of Occupancy. In SA this is not done. Its issued by the bank. BIG difference we have noticed between the 2 states. So everyone please check carefully everything during your inspection. Do not trust that installers have done a perfect job. Re: Building the Leon with Simonds Homes in Goolwa North - S 266Feb 13, 2014 9:19 am I'm surprised that the bank inspector didn't notice either. Thats terrible. The worry is, these are the things that don't even cross your mind, I wouldn't have given a thought to where the ventilation goes! At least you've already sorted it out! Re: Building the Leon with Simonds Homes in Goolwa North - S 267Feb 13, 2014 9:34 am That's awful... Glad I've got an independent building inspector for the PCI... Makes it worth the money even more hearing stories like that. Hope everything is going well with the house and you're getting lots done Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Building the Leon with Simonds Homes in Goolwa North - S 268Feb 13, 2014 5:50 pm The bank person was only there for 5 mins and took a few pictures to ensure they could recoup their money if we couldn't pay our mortgage. What a great idea Deluxes. Iwish we knew this difference ahead of time. Definitely would have arranged an independent inspector! Things have been great with the house. We have 3 bedrooms sorted, and the kitchen and laundry. As for furniture we will worry about that a bit later. The plantation shutters are on their way and once they have been installed we will look at finishing off the rest of the house. I haven't uploaded photos sorry as John has started school and Im home with the kids while Ben remained in SA to get the split systems installed and a few other things. We are extremely happy with everything though and its just come along like we envisioned Re: Building the Leon with Simonds Homes in Goolwa North - S 269Feb 19, 2014 6:28 pm I haven't been receiving email updates! Thought it was very quiet on the home forum front. Glad to hear that you are in, sorry there has been some hiccups. Sounds like it is better caught now than ever.
