Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 06, 2008 9:47 pm for those who have experienced the inspection, could you please tell me whether they are considered defects in your case, and need to be rectified? So far, most of them are external mortar "problems". Please follow the red line.

Not to sure about the last one thoug, I dont know. Adrian B Re: For those who had Inspection done: are these defects? 3May 06, 2008 10:28 pm All need fixing!
The last pic is where the wood has been cut and the pink paint is pre-primed wood... I am sure that would be painted over when they paint the rest of the house. As for the holes in the brick work they all need to be attended to. Nothing a dab of mortar wont fix. Mortar blowout is a common problem (yours appears to be a lack of care in most) and is easily repaired by hand later... No big deals there!!! Re: For those who had Inspection done: are these defects? 4May 06, 2008 11:29 pm My builder redid some external window sills for me which now look much better but I also noticed a few similar gaps left in the mortar at the window frame. Wasn't sure whether to bother raising it with them next week when we meet onsite but now I will. Re: For those who had Inspection done: are these defects? 6May 07, 2008 8:38 am Thanks all for the comment. Just sent a gentle email to my builder attend to those issues.
I am sure there are still other issues yet to be found, therefore there will be a second or third fourth episode of this kind of post. Re: For those who had Inspection done: are these defects? 7May 12, 2008 2:51 pm ha ha oznow, looks like you are just as fussy as my wife...we picked up lots of little things like that and most of them got fixed before handover.
make sure you take photos for each of those holes and clearly label it out in your email/document to builder so that they don't miss any of them. Like you nice little thing for the weep holes cover, looks nice! I would have done that if I had know about this a lot earlier. One other thing, have you lifted up the rubber stripes under all the windows? We found even more holes under the rubber stripes, one of the windows even got a "much shorter brick" which only by lifting the rubber stripes can reveal the problem... unfortunately our builder say this is industrial standard, as long as it can be cover by the strip it's ok...
