Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 15, 2013 12:36 pm Hi Everyone I'm new to this thread, as I stumbled across it googling Aveling. We are planning on building the base plan of the Californian called "the Samaya". We have only seen a Californian near lock up which it is the dearer house......and of course I fell in love! I have read that others spent about the same amount as they would have with the Californian on the Samaya and wondering if to spec up, or start with the Californian and omit things? I am flipping the back half of the house from the garage as we want the alfresco on the opposite side to the garage so its roadside on our block and taking out the study for a triple garage.......its a necessity. I would love to hear your feedback on what you upgraded and if you are happy. We haven't signed anything although we love this plan (ours would be tweaked to suit of course). Currently we are awaiting mock ups of what I like after seeing the Californian. I really wanted a large pantry but after seeing this ones design, which had a scullery in, I now would ,like that...........yes its a "want", not a necessity. Any cost saving ideas or any ideas in general would be greatly appreciated as I can see this being expensive and quite frankly, we don't have the capacity financially after buying very expensive land. My sales consultant seems brilliant and I am really looking forward to seeing the mock ups cheers Re: Aveling - To Build the Samaya or the Californian? 2Sep 17, 2013 10:46 am I would spec up personally.. the plans are very similar.. great plans.. love the kitchen but thats just me as i like the kitchen with a window to the alfresco for a servery.. im sure your sales consultant will keep it to what you have told him your budget is.. goodluck Home Group WA Monte Carlo Timeline on Page 1 Re: Aveling - To Build the Samaya or the Californian? 3Sep 25, 2013 6:10 pm I have built the samaya, I wanted the Californian and to reduce some things, they said it wasn't cost effective. We ended up spending nearly just as much but we are missing out on allot. What is your budget for the plan if you don't mind me asking. If you want you can pm me. I think if I could do it again I would have gone Californian. I spent about 60k before prestart. The prestart changes were going to cost another 30k, I reduced that down to 10k but missed out on allot of things that were included in the Californian. Re: Aveling - To Build the Samaya or the Californian? 4Oct 13, 2013 8:56 pm hi there, very sorry for the delay in responding. Ours will end up being a custom build as we flipped the whole back and changed the master, walk in, have a scullery and near on a triple garage. Im very happy so far, as we knew it was a killer especially with the massive and I mean massive alfresco we want (entertainers). So we will sign up in the next week and keep you all posted. Re: Aveling - To Build the Samaya or the Californian? 5Feb 08, 2014 5:55 pm All signed up and ready to roll when the titles come through...........well I wouldn't go that far. Prestart in a few weeks. Choosing the render is not that easy I am realising. We are currently looking at the ice volcano as the main render (whole house) and the features in dune with a surfmist roof. Has anyone used these colours and can show me pics Re: Aveling - To Build the Samaya or the Californian? 6Feb 15, 2014 10:13 am Hi Mullaloogal, am posting to follow your build. I am building the Californian and am having roof timbers installed at the moment. Look forward to seeing your plans My Build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64881 Thank you so much everyone.
