We felt that direct access to the kitchen would be of benefit as it would alleviate the need to traipse through hallway carrying groceries, much simpler to take them straight to Butlers pantry. We also kept the door throught to hallway so now we have the best of all worlds garage to house entry 25May 06, 2008 10:58 pm My vote is for any entry from the garage to be in to the hallway. I am not keen on ones that come directly into the kitchen as the only access. Like your double exit/entry into the house idea.
In the original plan ( Builder 1) we considered building and the 2nd plan ( diff builder) there was an entry into the kitchen. I wasn't keen at all but would have been happy to settle for a door next to the kitchen. We've ended up stealing the garage room though and turning it into a parent office/escape room and putting the garage on the other side of the house. so now having an entry into the house is not practical. if we've stayed with plan one there would have been a covered verandah from the garage to the front door anyway but now we'll have to do the 10 step dash in the rain instead. Rachelle, it depends on where they are when they're caught short we have another powder room (toilet) which is in the main body of the house plus another in the en suite. The main reason for the one in the garage is to avoid having to traipsing dirt etc into the house when working outdoors so I guess it should really be referred to as that new trendy term "mud room"! Re: Internal garage access 28May 07, 2008 12:45 pm After living without internal access from a garage for all my life so far... I AM SO VERY EXCITED to be having it finally...
Our entry from the garage is into the entry, but at the end of the entry way, just opposite our understair storage, and not far from kitchen, meals etc. I think for our house design, it is the best option. Re: Internal garage access 29May 07, 2008 1:55 pm At my parents house we have an internal access door from the garage! Its to the left of the front door before the hallway starts! its the best for those winter days when its raining and you dont want to get wet/cold! Ah gotcha, great idea! You didn't consider having another door on it? Then you could emerge directly into the house all clean? I dont think thats actually what a mud room is for I certainly wouldn't want to put my shoes and coats in there Paula Re: Internal garage access 32May 08, 2008 10:01 am I do at my house, also grew up with it with my parents house. At my house it opens out into the hallway. In this hallway there is a door for the cellar s easy access for my partner with taking tools out of his ute and into the cellar. For reference, this is the Austlii reference. My take on this is, that they would be breaking the law denying access to a homeowner in Victoria, or their agent from having… 1 9082 |
