Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 11, 2013 12:27 pm Dear Admins, friends, brothers and sisters.I seriously want you to think twice before you build with Homestart.I don't hate them because they don't build the house, contractors do......but my point is whatever they place in your contract,I think you need to think carefully.I seriously regret building with them.im a unsatisfied customer.imagine your first home purchased for a high price falling apart in 4 years.and for the price we had no idea they could give us roll on vinyl of cheap quality which has left me re doing my floors again costing me another $7000 dollars from my savings. Many many more I can write.but nah.....I signed it its my fault. But my next house definetly not them.never...........I'm not hitting at them.im just saying as it is. Re: Disappointment in buying a house from Homestart 2Sep 11, 2013 12:41 pm Sorry to hear you are unhappy with your builder. But if you're going to sign up just to name them and give them a sledge I'd suggest you explain yourself a bit better than simply that you are unhappy with your choice of vinyl flooring... Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: Disappointment in buying a house from Homestart 3Sep 11, 2013 3:35 pm I thought they were a discount starter house type builder? It might be a case of you get what you pay for. Re: Disappointment in buying a house from Homestart 4Sep 11, 2013 5:58 pm I am about to the building with HBC in vic and although they specialise in first homeowner packages, and have low deposit options and low house prices, I couldn't be happier with their selection of materials. I don't believe it's a case of "you get what you pay for" in terms of lack of quality in materials. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the flooring, I hope you fed it back to homestart so they had the opportunity to respond to you. After all, that's how positive changes occur- by customer feedback. We originally signed the PPA with Homestart and then decided to go with another builder because Homestart had already started to stuff us around and the construction phase hadnt even started! Now they are being extremely difficult to deal with and I would NEVER recommend them to ANYONE! Infact I would warn everyone to not even sign the PPA unless you are 100% sure! Make sure you do as much research as possible and compare apples for apples... My partner and I are very price focused and we still managed to find a builder who was in fact cheaper then Homestart and had better specs, larger home, more reputable and could give us ALL costs upfront without having us sign the PPA before informing us of all costs. I would never recommend Homestart to my family and friends... or infact ANYONE Building with Smart Homes for Living 19/10/13 - Met with builder - Smart Homes for Living 29/10/13 - Chose builder and paid deposit Anyone built with Fowler Homes?
