I was asking because I've been wondering about how many pendants to get. Yours looks nicely proportioned. Are those the small or large size? Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 162May 30, 2014 1:32 pm They're the smaller size, though when I put them in I thought I should have got the larger size. I'm hoping that once we have furniture in and it doesn't look so big and empty, the lights might look more in proportion. Fantastic. Your kitchen/living area is divine. I hope you have a wonderfully exhausting and productive weekend. Time to crack open the bubbly? Shutter details pretty please, but only when you have time. No rush. Thanks! The shutters and blinds are all from Andy at Just Blinds (a very small business). Others here have used Boardwalk shutters and I'm sure they're great too - even WBN's interior designer used them, which is a good recommendation in my book. We got ours from Andy because we liked the idea of getting the blinds and shutters all from the same place. The Freedom interior designer put us onto Andy. She was absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend her. She works from their Osborne Park store. She really understood the look and feel we were aiming for and had lots of great suggestions. She didn't just recommend all Freedom things and was happy to work with other things we were getting elsewhere. She was also really helpful with things like paint colours, skirting and all sorts of non-furniture decisions we were making at the time. And on the subject of recommendations, I have to recommend Aussie Clotheslines too. I just wish everything building-related was as easy to organise as our clothesline. They have a great website with all the info you need and showrooms with very helpful people. There are lots of options for clotheslines (we got one that comes in all the colorbond colours). They booked the installation for a couple of days after I ordered it, a very nice man turned up on time and installed it and it all looks great. It was such a pleasant surprise to have everything go so smoothly. We'll definitely be back to see them when we're up to letter boxes. And yes, there will most definitely be bubbly this weekend Built with WBN in WA Slab down 16 Aug 2013, Handover 16 April 2014, Moved in 2 June 2014 Our house build thread Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 164May 30, 2014 11:15 pm Thank you! Building with Dale Alcock Homes in Aveley Our thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63880 And yes, my pants are indeed fancy. Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 167Jun 12, 2014 11:26 pm We have now moved in! It's so nice to be living in a house - a whole house that's all ours! There's so much space! I am, however, looking forward to the morning I don't have tradies coming through the house by 8am. It doesn't make for a relaxing start to the day. In the last couple of weeks we've had all our cabinetry put in (pantry, walk in robe, entertainment unit, study, dressing table and bedside tables), we have skirting, a phone line and internet, our structured cabling things are mostly set up and I think we've had a new piece of furniture delivered just about every day. (Today it was my second armchair for the living area.) We've also found a cleaner to come regularly. I will post photos once we're all set up - we have carpet to come next week and photos to hang, plus a bit more furniture either next week or the week after. In the meantime, here's our walk in robe (unfortunately have to wait for the carpet next week before we can move in): The trouble is that every person who comes through leaves at least one problem that they then need to come back and fix. I cross one thing off my list, but it just creates one or two new jobs to sort out. It feels like it's never-ending. It's like a mini version of the build! Speaking of our builder, we are still very slowly working our way through our list of PCI issues. Several of them we've just taken on and are fixing ourselves or organising fixes directly with the relevant person (cabinetmaker, electrician etc). Others we're still just waiting. There are definitely more things we've noticed since moving in (for example, why on earth does it take so long for the water to become hot - it's meant to be an instant water heater!). One thing that's really, really bothering me is the colour of our door and door frame paint. I know fancy pants has had this problem too, and noticed it for the same reason we did: when skirting was put in, it really showed up how yellow the doors were. The builder says that it's because oil-based paint can turn yellow on timber. But the paint is a different colour in the tin - see the photos below. In its tin, the skirting paint labelled WA White is not the same colour as the paint used by the builder's painter, although they're supposed to be the same. I first assumed it was the skirting painter's mistake, but then worked out that his skirting is an exact match for the ceilings and cornices (which are also meant to be WA White). But the ceilings and cornices are not the same colour as the doors and door frames. It looks terrible. I really hope it will be fixed, and soon. In the meantime I'd better go make sure the house is tidy for tomorrow's tradespeople: someone is coming to set up our doorbell (which can be answered remotely and do all sorts of tricky things) and one of the cabinetmakers is coming back to fix up a few issues. Our much-delayed carpets should be here on Monday (fingers crossed) and I can't wait for that. Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 169Jun 13, 2014 12:19 am So exciting! I love your robes, who did you end up using? After reading about the issues with skirting and door frame colours, i'm a bit worried about this too now. In the picture of the tins, they really do look like a different colour. Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 170Jun 13, 2014 12:30 am Your WIR is exactly the set out I am aiming for with that colour wood and all....absolutely love it!! Your house is beautiful. Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 171Jun 13, 2014 11:04 am I'm interested to see what your builder will do about the paint. We've been told it's the nature of oil-based paints and unavoidable (which was also covered in our addenda) so all we can really do is hope that the skirting paint hurries up and discolours so it will at least match the bloody doors! I wish someone had told me just how quickly the paint would discolour as I was expecting it to happen over years. We were considering black doors at one point and if I'd known how ugly yellowed doors would have looked (especially against white skirting) we may have gone with that, or perhaps tried to have them blended in with the wall paint. Your walk-in robe looks fantastic! Which company did you go with in the end? We're contemplating fitting ours out in the future. The carpet will be a great addition. Just look out for tradies in dirty boots. Our carpets are already stained in two rooms. Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 172Jun 13, 2014 5:11 pm Thanks everyone. Fancy pants, it's interesting that the paint issue was in your addenda. I've just gone back and checked ours (and our paint selection sheet) and it didn't have anything about that. It didn't even specify that the paint was oil-based, and that's certainly not something we chose. And like you, we definitely wouldn't have done this if we'd known what was going to happen. Blending in with the wall paint would have been a very good alternative. I don't think I'd recommend our walk-in robe company (who also did our pantry, home theatre cabinetry and dressing table and bedside tables). I'm very happy with the end result (or hope I will be once a few issues are sorted out) but it was such hard work getting here. He really wasn't good at explaining what options we could select from, or translating things into drawings, finalising options, scheduling, communication generally... It was all just very hard work, which isn't what people need on top of everything else you deal with during building. On the other hand, Flexi did our study cabinetry and they were a breeze to deal with and did a good job (although they did put some dents in our brand new wooden floor, which upset me a bit). They would be worth speaking to. I know exactly what you mean about not wanting to make a recommendation. You can love the finished product but know that it wasn't worth the drama it took to get there. I kind of feel that way about our house. I'm sorry to hear your floors were damaged. Our floors look fantastic but the installation guys absolutely wrecked our walls. I don't meant a few chips here and there, I mean chunks out of almost every wall where the wood was installed. I cried when I realised how bad the damage was. Basically we need to patch and repaint the whole house, which we're obviously not going to be able to do. Thank goodness our floors look so good or I would've been outside keying a few vans! Will look in to Flexi as an option. Building with Dale Alcock Homes in Aveley Our thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63880 And yes, my pants are indeed fancy. Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 174Jun 13, 2014 11:12 pm Omg i know how you feel .i moved in 2 weeks ago .i have 6 kids and lived in the house while living area was getting tiled had to be out by 7 every morning for like 5 days . the tilers where great and left as pathways .we lived in one room at night lol. They really respected my home . but i know what you mean when you move in you seem to see more things that are wrong .redink has been really good to me so hopefully they will still be when i have my 6mon check .it kinda doesnt feel like my home more like a project .that started back in oct2012 and is still going .but now you are your own ss and you dont have q finish line . When things go wrong you have to fix it . Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - finishing off 176Jun 16, 2014 6:35 pm How exciting to be getting new furniture for a new house. The paint saga must be completely irritating. I wonder what the paint companies would suggest to avoid/solve this problem. Your wall colour and floor close-ups look so good. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Build with Webb & Brown-Neaves (WA) - moved in photos 177Aug 29, 2014 12:16 am Now that the inside of the house is almost all set up, I thought I'd put up a few pictures. This is our main living, dining and kitchen area: The pantry is impossible to photograph but here's the entrance (and then it goes around the corner): Meanwhile, this is the current state of the back garden landscaping: We're really enjoying the house (though I wish the list of outstanding issues to resolve would get smaller!). And it will be even better once the landscaping is done. I'll also enjoy our living area a lot more once we've replaced the fence so we don't have people in the laneway looking through the gap in the fence into our kitchen and living room!) I'll be back again soon with some more photos and to ask for some help with a couple of landscaping decisions. Love, love, love, love, love, etc. etc. Is that the sofa from Bay? It looks so good. Your taste is great. The other standout for me is the stone bench/stools/white kitchen/copper pendants combo. Perfect.
