Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 03, 2013 2:42 pm Hi - We are just about to kick off and build a new two storey home. Our shortlist is down to Eden Brae, Huxley and Coral Homes. I understand Coral Homes owners have had issues with their home in Southern Queensland and Northern NSW, but was wondering what feedback from people in the Hunter, Central Coast area are having with these builders? Re: Building with Coral Homes, Huxley Home or Eden Brae - NS 2Sep 03, 2013 6:47 pm If you dealing with coral, make sure deal carefully in hunter. Upfront they talk fine until your 1600$ deposit. once you paid deposit, you know their real face Re: Building with Coral Homes, Huxley Home or Eden Brae - NS 3Oct 03, 2013 11:59 am We are building a single storey house by Coral Homes in NSW - Hunter/Newcastle. As first time builders, we do not have any experience building, or even what to expect. So far we are very happy with our progress. We paid our deposit in March, and our build is starting tomorrow. I don't know if that is a super long time to get through the paperwork - but, like I said, we are happy and we have had plenty of time to get our colour selections, and floorplans just right. We did get a couple of variations to the floorplans/upgrades (but that is because we kept adding things we wanted and subtracting things that were too pricey in the tender before we signed the contract). The sales consultant at Chisolm was really great and helpful, especially as this is our first time building. We couldn't rate him highly enough. We also went off the recommendation from a very anal and fussy friend that these guys were great to build with (and coming from him - that REALLY means something). We have been through his house and the quality, inclusions and overall finish are what really crossed us over that line (even though by then we had completely fallen in love with the Casuarina floorplans). Hope this helps you with your future build. You will have to let us know who you decided to go with Re: Building with Coral Homes, Huxley Home or Eden Brae - NS 4Apr 10, 2014 8:02 am After careful consideration my wife and I have decided to put pen to paper about our experience with Huxley Homes, we have read so many horror stories about couples that had so many problems building there dream home that has turned so terrible wrong. Well we have to say that this did not happen at all. From the very start we found Huxley to be professional, we started the initial design with their design team and a senior Huxley consultant. We found everyone to be easy to relate to, making many changes to our design that were helpful And cost effective. All estimates on quotes were spot on. They were not pushy or overbearing which was a relief as we found many builders were exactly the opposite. Initial layout drawings were submitted to us and the consultant actually met us on site and the house was pegged out so that we could see the actual position and layout. From there we went to the brick selection and internal fit out materials this was selected with a color consultant at the Huxley Office. It was a bit much to take in, so such our consultant organised a second session. Next was the electrical lay out positions for switches lights power points fans. We were supplied drawings, this was great as you had time to consider where they were and make changes if required. It was the little things that also made the difference the drawings and the brochures that were supplied by Huxley allowed you to lay your furniture out on your plan so you could see the house and how the furniture would look and then look for power points fans and lights to make sure it was correct. We were introduced to the site manager, We must say that he was a pleasure to work with. We had his mobile number and were able to ring and ask questions as required. If he was unable to take the call then he would always ring back. He actually said that the quality of the finished project would be to show home standard. I thought ok lets see. To his credit the finished product was exactly that. Period for minor defects. These were minor and I actually felt it wasn’t worth the trouble but the site manager dropped in and said that he would fix these. That’s another point, how many site managers would pop in to see you and ask if there were any issues while he was in the area. This is what its all about the builder knows his product is good, he knows it was built right and that’s why he can pop in and ask how is it going. Communication with accounts were spot on there were no early invoices, reconciliation was spot on. This was a great experience that should be shared to all. If you want to build a home, then do your self a favour talk to Huxley. You wont look back! I built with EB back on 2009.
