Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 03, 2013 10:56 am Hi all, This is my first time posting here, so please let me know if I have done something wrong or posted at wrong place. I have found a piece of land that I am interested to purchase and build a house on it. But what concerns me is that very large portion of this land is covered with rock (huge rocks). I don't have any experience in building so I am wondering if someone can shed me some light on what will be the potential impact to build a house on a rocky land? Will there be a lot of additional cost to remove / cut the rocks? Thanks so much for the help! Re: Building house on rocky land 2Sep 03, 2013 11:12 am ttts862 Hi all, Will there be a lot of additional cost to remove / cut the rocks? I think so. I can't possibly tell you an accurate amount, but I'd imagine there would be 'thousands' of dollars cost in breaking up and removing rock, plus costs associated with dumping it. Additionally there are the rocks you can't see, which are even more costly due to difficulty to remove. Tens of thousands up to 100k Re: Building house on rocky land 3Sep 04, 2013 10:40 am I'm not in the same situation, but someone building with my builder encountered a big rock on their block, and it cost many thousands to remove, about 25k if my memory is right. An alternative could be a raised house rather than a house on a slab, it may be cheaper that way, but then the build itself could be more. Hi, This is my first post.
