I think it helps make your wall colour 'pop'.
But then again, my friend has similar colours on her walls and her architraves except that the architraves are slightly darker and glossy and it still looks good. Having said that, her floor tiles are also in the same range of colours so maybe she wanted it all to blend. Who knows?! Another idea is to paint the skirts / architraves / doors in the same colour as your walls - but in gloss. That's what we're doing, although most of our walls will be a shade of white anyway (Antique White USA). On the contrasting walls we will still keep the skirts / archs / doors in the white gloss.
