Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 05, 2008 9:11 pm Hi everyone. I figured that after lurking for about a month it's time to get postng! We are currently in the process of buildng, just started site start and wish i found you guys earler.
My quick question is what is the trend is with painting doors, architraves and skirtings. Do i paint them the same colour as my walls (Moon River) or do i go for a contrast colour such as a white? We are going for floorboards and alfresco aluminium off white sliding doors. I think i prefer the contrast but want to know what the general trend is? Thanks heaps guys! Re: door/skirting colours.....confused 2May 05, 2008 9:57 pm Hi - we're building with PD and according to the color consultant who helped us, the ceiling and the cornices should be white. The architraves and skirting can be different to the ceiling and cornices but should be the same color. Does that make sense? She also recommended having a contrasting wall paint. So, in our case:
Ceiling/cornices - white Architraves and skirting - chalk dust (which pretty much looks like white) Most walls - chalk beige 3 feature walls - seductress (a deep wine red color) Hope that helps. Slab down mid Jan - now at fix stage. Re: door/skirting colours.....confused 3May 05, 2008 10:07 pm We haven't selected colours but we're most likely doing fairly white walls with a darker architrave and skirting, however I think the current trend is to do the architraves and skirtings a lighter shade than the walls.
If your walls are a light beige then I'd do white. Do i paint them the same colour as my walls (Moon River) or do i go for a contrast colour such as a white? Hi miss81, firstly welcome to the forum! We've selected Moon River for our walls with white for the ceilings and Ashwood for the internal skirts/arch's and doors. Here's a pic of our place so that you can see what it can look like?: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hope that helps??? Re: door/skirting colours.....confused 9May 06, 2008 9:23 am I'm not sure what the general trend is but I much prefer the white architraves. I think it helps make your wall colour 'pop'.
But then again, my friend has similar colours on her walls and her architraves except that the architraves are slightly darker and glossy and it still looks good. Having said that, her floor tiles are also in the same range of colours so maybe she wanted it all to blend. Who knows?! Another idea is to paint the skirts / architraves / doors in the same colour as your walls - but in gloss. That's what we're doing, although most of our walls will be a shade of white anyway (Antique White USA). On the contrasting walls we will still keep the skirts / archs / doors in the white gloss. Good luck with your choice and rest of your build! donuts If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8306 Joe Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. If you haven't sorted this already you need to caulk this gap. Not sure where you are but if you are in Sydney I can… 5 4345 7 3005 |
