Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 31, 2013 3:53 pm We are very new to building and I am still trying to get my head around who does what. When our house was issued to construction we asked for an earlier meeting than normal with our site supervisor because we have are having polished concrete and we have an upgraded aggregate slab so we didn't want to wait till after it was poured. We wanted to be confidant they could take care of it for us as it is really having your floor installed right at the beginning instead of at handover. It needs to be treated carefully. So we got a call saying the construction manager and our supervisor would meet us there. It was a good meeting and we went away happy. Then my partner mentioned it to someone at work who said wow, construction managers never visit sites. We thought cool, the supervisors boss came out with him so they must be taking extra care with our house. Then our supervisor quit. And we were told that while they recruited someone new our house would be looked after by the supervising supervisor. I thought hang on, there is another boss in between. So that was fine as he would be looking after it while the slab goes down and it will be done well. Then I thought maybe not, isn't he supervising all the other supervisors and does he have the time to manage our house too? So can other more experienced people who have built before tell me is it a good thing the construction manager is a bit more involved and is it good or bad to have our site managed by the supervising supervisor? Pamela Re: Different Roles - Supervisor, Construction Manager etc 2Aug 31, 2013 5:27 pm There is no set rule, every company can structure things how they wish. The main thing is that you have someone there checking as the licenced builder and an independent party certifying. I think it's always best to check everything yourself the whole way through. Communication is the key. Re: Different Roles - Supervisor, Construction Manager etc 3Sep 25, 2013 3:33 pm Hi Kittyranch, Loving your plan and especially the aggregate polished concrete. I also want to get aggregate polished concrete. Are you able to say whether it was a significant price difference from the normal price of concrete slab? Is it around the same price that it would be if you were to get your house carpeted/tiled? Sorry for all the questions, I have been waiting for someone to have this in their build so I could ask questions. We wont be looking at building plans until end of October. If you need to pay for a project manager you would be well advised to just engage a builder who would take full responsibility for the build. As opposed to you OB where… 5 12341 yep you need a joint, foam is easiest, will look fine once rendered with a joint. 2 4350 Hi, have purchased a house with 2 single garage doors. The Centre pillar one side sits proud to the other. Can I change 2 doors into one. Please see picture. 0 2420 |
