Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 22, 2013 12:56 am Our new home is finally kicking off We have just had our sand pad go down and our concrete will be laid very soon. It was a bit delayed with the rain last week. I can't wait as we are getting a Boral aggregate.
We are building a slightly modified version of the Banskia. http://www.switchhomes.com.au/display-homes/display-series/the-banksia-wandi We have gone for it "as displayed" but as our block is big we have turned it around so the side will become the front. This means the side that was the ugly side had to be dressed up to be our street frontage. This made some of the rooms a bit bigger to even out the look. The display is rendered and ours will be brick in Boral Whitecliff with some areas of render to break it up. Our roof will be Jasper Colourbond and we have silver window frames and a big pivot door at the entrance. All the floors will be the polished concrete except the three bathroom which are going to be the same tiles as the display, just more grey looking. We even copied the cabinet colour choices except matte not shiny and handles not push cabinets. The house is going to be finished off really well and we are excited to see how it turns out but the outside will be bare and sandy!! We don't know what to do there yet and need to sell our current house to pay for that part LOL.We thought it would be best to see the house on the block then decide. More news as it goes up!!!! Re: Switch Homes - SOR WA - "The Banskia" 2Aug 22, 2013 12:35 pm Our window frames have arrived on site! No sign of the concrete arriving any time soon but I am sure it wont be long. We have had the block seven years and it took us two years to decide on a house then a year to finalise it so I a can be patient. Re: Switch Homes - SOR WA - "The Banskia" 4Aug 23, 2013 6:43 pm Thanks. We have a brook behind our block. Some of the trees are on our land and some on the edge of the gully where the brook runs. The trees need a tidy up of dead branches but we need council permission to touch them. Re: Switch Homes - SOR WA - "The Banskia" - plans added 6Aug 24, 2013 8:55 pm Great plan kittyranch and fab block. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Re: Switch Homes - SOR WA - "The Banskia" - plans added 7Aug 26, 2013 10:58 pm Love the plan kittyranch! Especially the lovely big showers, and the fact that you have so much separate living space ... it's nice to be able to have that space so you're not on top of each other all the time. The block looks lovely too - how big is it? We are hoping friends and family will visit lots and use the extra bedrooms and bathrooms!!! Re: Switch Homes - SOR WA - "The Banskia" - pad concerns 10Aug 29, 2013 11:03 am Still no slab and the heavy rain here in Perth has washed a bit of our pad away. The weird thing is they made the pad from our own sand. The dug out a big hole behind it and used our sand but now there is a big hole. I am going to assume they will fill it. We had actually saved a few thousand as we originally said any of the top that gets scarped off can be left onsite. So we thought we would have a few piles of soil but instead we have a hole. To my thinking we have paid for a slab so if they used our sand (and yes, it is nice yellow sand as it should be) then should we get a credit for it or should at least have replacement sand to fill the hole. And the hole is not off to the side. It is right behind it and that is where the pad has slipped away. This pic shows the pad and you can see the hole at the back as sort of a drop away The hole And just for fun our trees Re: Switch Homes - SOR WA - "The Banskia" - plans added 11Aug 29, 2013 11:09 am Good news. I called Switch and they agreed that they had thought we were getting sand not using our own sand. They are going to get back to me but it will be rectified. Yay.
