Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Pendant Lights vs Down Lights in the Kitchen! 2Aug 20, 2013 3:13 pm I think pendant lights are good for directing light directly over the island bench, but obviously you have to pick a type that does that. I would also go with something cleanable, that is not made of fabric. It's also a good opportunity to add some nice looking decor to your kitchen. Always go an odd number as a design rule of thumb. And absolutely go pendant. It'll give you an instant WOW factor. Agreed no material! And Id stay away from black (ie materials that will show up every spec of dust and grime!) Re: Pendant Lights vs Down Lights in the Kitchen! 7Aug 20, 2013 8:48 pm I love pendant lights too, but I was wondering if they are only suited to higher ceilings. I will only have 28c in my kitchen. Maybe that's too low for pendants? http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Pendant Lights vs Down Lights in the Kitchen! 8Aug 20, 2013 10:17 pm We went for both haha.... 4 pendant lights over the island bench. Then 2 down lights each side of the bench, and then 2 down lights in our overhead cupboards. There may be a picture of our lights on my blog. I've never needed task lighting on the bench. Be careful they are not too bright. Was sitting at a friends bench the other day and felt like I needed sunnies. Re: Pendant Lights vs Down Lights in the Kitchen! 13Jul 01, 2014 11:13 pm I was suppose to get pendents but my electrician kinda forgot lol and continued with down lights . I don't know I have a lot going on in my kitchen but I think for all white kitchens they look good brings a bit more color in . Re: Pendant Lights vs Down Lights in the Kitchen! 15Jul 02, 2014 2:45 am We have a combo. Ceiling is 28c 3 pendants over island bench which is around 4.5m long 4 downlights down the middle of the kitchen which is about 6m long. I wouldn't want to go without either. The pendants we have aren't bright enough to light up the whole kitchen and get used as background lighting while we watch TV Re: Pendant Lights vs Down Lights in the Kitchen! 16Jul 02, 2014 2:52 am Just took a few photos which may or may not help. The pendants aren't actually that bad but these are taken at night with just the tv on. During the day you cant tell that the pendants are on. We also have lights under the overheads but unfortunately not connected yet. Could probably get away without downlights with them. All of our lights are "natural" white which is in between cool and warm. They can still look good (sometimes) although more and more people are forgoing them. Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. Re: Pendant Lights vs Down Lights in the Kitchen! 18Jul 02, 2014 8:46 am xxkatxx Ceiling is 28c Is that a 2400, 2550, or 2700mm ceiling ? To me "28c" is an external measurement of the brickwork height. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
