Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 18, 2013 12:11 pm Hi everyone I just wanted to pick your brains if you don't mind We have a lovely block of land in Bedfordale, WA and have finally settled on a plan for the house but I think that we need to get a contour survey / engineering report before we can approach earthworks companies for a quote I was just wondering if this is correct? We haven't signed up with the Builder yet, they say that they can provide us with the report and a quote for the earthworks, etc once we've signed up but I really wanted to gain quotes from independent earthmoving companies first so I could compare. I know a lot of people on this forum have built in Bedfordale and some have done their own earthworks. So the question is - Do I need to go to Structerre for a report myself or can I get quotes without the engineering report? Thanks Serenity Re: Building in Bedfordale, WA - Earthworks query - help! 2Aug 18, 2013 11:00 pm Our builder used structerre to do our soil report. It came back saying it was a p class which our builder felt wasn't right,in the end the guy that did the report admitted he didn't know much about clay soils! Luckily our builder fought for us and had it amended otherwise we would have had to stump our house, long story short maybe if you get your builder to do the report you have more chance of changing it if you feel its not correct. Hope this helps, good luck! Re: Building in Bedfordale, WA - Earthworks query - help! 3Aug 27, 2013 9:14 pm Hi serenity we are building in Bedfordale too and I just got quotes from the two main ones up there, we ended up going with Moles they seemed to know all about the block and what we needed, if you need any more info feel free to ask:) Re: Building in Bedfordale, WA - Earthworks query - help! 5Aug 27, 2013 9:22 pm Hi Tmitch, We have only just signed up with the builder so we are waiting on the engineer's report and contour survey before we approach the earthmoving companies. Am I right in thinking that I need these before I can get a quote from the earthmovers? Moles have done the earthworks for a couple of the houses nearby and some people on this forum building in Bedfordale have highly recommended them so I will be giving them a call. Thanks Re: Building in Bedfordale, WA - Earthworks query - help! 6Aug 27, 2013 9:35 pm You could give Moles a ring and ask them, I am pretty sure we didn't have them we did have the plans of the house on the block though, and moles were really good and noticed straight away that the retaining wall was slightly out of the building envelope where the building company and the other earthworker didn't pick it up, plus they were 10 grand cheaper with there quote, which is always a good thing Re: Building in Bedfordale, WA - Earthworks query - help! 8Aug 27, 2013 9:44 pm Who are you building with, we are building with Gemmill and having our PCI on Friday, it's been a long time coming we bought our block in Nov 2011, thought it would never happen !! Re: Building in Bedfordale, WA - Earthworks query - help! 9Sep 11, 2013 12:33 am we were recommended to sue NLG or I think Moles, but NLG came up most often. We had to have a soil report done....but I forget what the class was as we just the drawings back in I know we have to have a 600mm sandpad. I got quotes from Creative Driveways for the driveway and landscaping......cannot recommend them enough, local knowledge is awesome and very helpfull 2 7209 There is no reason why building contract reconciliation cannot be done prior to handover, if the builder won't do it get someone to do it for you.
