Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA 21Aug 26, 2013 10:41 pm Woe...8 weeks is such a long wait! I hope we don't have to wait that long. Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA - Brickwork dela 22Sep 04, 2013 3:13 pm I just received a call from our CL advising that our brickwork still does not have a definite start date. They confirmed with me that due to bad weather their brickwork teams are working on backlogs and it has affected working timelines. I was so suprised that the block next to us only took a week for the earthworks and slab to finish! They don't have any signage as to who the builder is but I am so keen to find out. Our estate so far has three blocks building with ALH (including us) and I would imagine all three are on the waiting line. Sigh...sigh...sigh...and the waiting continues. It's funny how excitement dissipates in an instant when there are delays. I guess this roller coaster of emotions will go on and on until we finally move in. That's still a long way to go! Sigh...sigh...sigh... Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA 23Sep 04, 2013 3:48 pm There was good weather back in April when we got our slab and we waited a month which is about the norm. So if they can start not long after the 4 week mark it is still pretty good time! *fingers crossed* we have fine weather during the day Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA 24Sep 04, 2013 3:54 pm fmac There was good weather back in April when we got our slab and we waited a month which is about the norm. I hope something happens next week or at least the week after. Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA - Brickwork dela 25Sep 04, 2013 4:04 pm Based on weather and bricklayer shortages at the moment I think 4-8 weeks is the average wait though ours was 4 weeks and we still had handover 20weeks from slab down! Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA - Brickwork dela 26Sep 04, 2013 6:08 pm I had so much drama (and waiting) even before the build started so I guess that's why I had enough of delays. But I guess nothing to do but wait. Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA - Brickwork dela 27Sep 05, 2013 10:46 am that's a little bit but they will soon be bricking. I noticed the house across from you now has one full wall at plate height, 3 more to go but the bricking does look amazing, so I would be happy to wait and know it will be done properly than get them to rush and have issues with bricking, the wow home on the corner is a perfect example, their is a gap between bricks and slab around many of their walls and some of the bricks are slightly tilted, I have also noticed this with a few other builds that have just pushed through quickly. Im sure we will be in the same boat, im just hoping they will be able to catch things up later in the build if our bricking is also delayed. I know it is frustrating watching everyone else zoom ahead, we had our first independent building inspector visit the slab and site and they didn't find any issues, which is a very good start!!! from start of earthworks to slab was a little under 2 weeks for us hope they can start bricking soon for you! building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65845 Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA - Brickwork dela 28Sep 05, 2013 7:53 pm xxxKGJxxx that's a little bit but they will soon be bricking. Thanks KGJ. That's assuring to know. I wouldn't be surpised if we will finish at the same time or almost the same time. Hubby and I had a look at the quality of the work on the area and we were just so shocked to see how other builders do it. So I agree. Better to wait and get it done properly. I have my speculations could it be that some company's would pay better $$$$ per brick or sq. meter than what other company's do, therefore some builders have more brickies on their books? im not in the building business, have just seen a few houses have full plate height that have only got their slab poured a week before us, so I am not 100% convinced that a brickie shortage maybe the issue but rather weather and $$$ per brick or sq meter, as I could imagine that they would have waited longer from slab pour if brickies were really in desperate need??? this is just an opinion again I don't work in the building/construction industry. have you hear any news from ALH about when they are expecting bricking to start? the other lot across from you should be finished this week. I discovered based on material dates on their site that by this week it would have been 12 weeks since slab pour so fingers crossed for them that it is finished this week. building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65845 Re: Building our first home in Pearsall, WA - Brickwork dela 40Sep 30, 2013 10:03 pm xxxKGJxxx jericho1227 AKB Hi Guys, My Brickie dropped into our office today, unfortunately I don't have good news....there is indeed a shortage of Brickies ....some builders are offering up to 25% more per brick than what they were a few months ago and cash bonus I incentives on top of that....I'm sure this awful weather has a lot to answer for .....hang in their (easier said then done I know) Cheers Akb that doesn't sound too good, I have seen a few houses in the area go up really quickly, we have just had a lady come from the UK come to work and she said they aren't advertising a brickie shortage in the UK for people to come here and work?
