Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 06, 2013 1:28 pm Hi all, I am currently in the process of choosing an architect for a renovation in Newtown on a semi. I would love to hear recommendations for an affordable architect and a builder also. If you can offer a high recommendation for someone could you please let me know? Thanks so much, Re: Finding an architect/builder Newtown area 2Aug 06, 2013 2:24 pm Hi Mia, Is it an internal renovation or both internal external? I have used Living Space Constructions for our house, but it was only interior work the result was great, I do recommend them, another one is Kingdom Renovations. In relation to the Architect being one myself I don't have strong views, there are quite few out there the only recommendation I can give is to have a face to face meeting before engaging one, getting an Architect its like making a new friend, you need to trust him/her. The process of design, submit to Council and get an approval takes months. Say 4-5 in the best scenario. So in my view you need a designer first, as you can understand for the builder you will have plenty of time. Beware of the difference between Architects and Draftpersons, as the second are normally cheaper the first are registered with the NSW board and carry far more knowledge. Depends on what you are looking for. If you go to the Council website you can find informations on how to lodge a DA, normally I do advise my clients on how all the process works. And yes it is long, straight forward most of the cases, but yet time consuming:( Happy to give you more informations if you need. Cheers Your build is relatively simple, I believe your job can be easily done by a good building designer, you really do not need to pay for the architect.
