Should I tell them that I saw it when we were looking at the house or will they be annoyed that we went through the fence lol Re: Who is building with Allworth Homes 2270Apr 09, 2016 7:01 pm jess_93 Hi everyone, we just went for a look at our house and noticed they put tiles where we asked for them to remove on our kitchen. No need to wait , We had a same issues when we built. We Wrote in paper and paste it in the front door, mentioned that wrong tiles are laid and asked the tiler to stop work first, asked them to ring the tiles company to find out the correct tiles to get delivered. Re: Who is building with Allworth Homes 2273Apr 09, 2016 8:25 pm If the tiles are wrong the sooner they know the better, It would be cheaper & easier to fix now while the tilers are still on the job, It's also hard not to take a peek. Re: Who is building with Allworth Homes 2276Apr 12, 2016 2:53 pm Hi there I've been reading through this thread with great interest the last couple of days. We're in the very early stages of building a home with Allworth. We have our land in Umina beach and are waiting on the initial quote back from Allworth for a Sonata 4 bed plus media. Hopefully will have that back in the next week. They've made a couple of adjustments to the design to satisfy some odd requirements from Gosford Council, including: - You cannot have an external wall that has no variations in it for over 9 metres - The interior dimensions of a double garage cannot be less than 6x6m Strange rules that I don't understand the point of, but the one that concerns me is the garage. By making it bigger it makes the overall width of the house about 0.5m wider. I want side access and want to be able to get my boat down past the side of the house. This extra width of the garage is going to make for a tight squeeze. Not impossible but not much room for error. Does anybody know how black and white this rule is? Is it possible to get a narrower garage approved by the council? There is a way you can get around it by getting it approved complying development rather than council. We had to go through council because we may have had acid sulphate soil, we didn't but because there was a possibilty we had to go through council. The reason they have the bigger garage is so there are less cars parked on the street. It makes things difficult with some of these regulations. You may have your cars parked in the garage but your boat may have to go on the street. Re: Who is building with Allworth Homes 2278Apr 12, 2016 3:32 pm Thanks Melb01, much appreciated. I think I'll push the issue and try to get it through council with a smaller dimension. You can still easily fit 2 cars in a garage that's 5.5m wide. We are also putting a large 6x8m garage in the backyard, so maybe they'll take that into account. Half the neighbourhood could get their cars off the street in into my garages if they wanted to, haha! Re: Who is building with Allworth Homes 2279Apr 12, 2016 3:34 pm Haven't had much time to post lately but we are in our house and love it. The painting job was pretty average but other than that we are pretty happy. We repainted the lounge, dining, media and main bedroom before we moved in and changed the colour. They have such a small range of colours that we knew it was going to be a bit of a gamble. All the other stuff is going on now, garage, electrical, retaining wall, fence, turf etc. One bit of advice is if you need a retaining wall built check your council's requirement well before it needs to be done because not one person we got to quote and discuss what we should do said anything about a DA for it. The council have said it can take a few months for approval, someone has to draw up plans so add another 2 - 3 weeks and then an engineer so however long that takes. With 2 dogs that need a yard we need it done sooner. Fun and games at the moment ut are very thankful to be in ahead of the contract time. You would think anyhow. Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 47434 I would never build with Fowler homes.
