Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Floor plan - thoughts? What do you think? 21Jul 31, 2013 10:36 pm Hi balilover - I have added your suggestions to my "List to discuss with builder" - esp rotating the WC - I was going to give hubby the WIR that was smaller, but if it is rotated then maybe we can have equal space just need to check and ensure that there's space for towels next to the shower, maybe towel rings. Also love the idea of moving the study window - This will allow more light to come in from the east in the morning. I need to make that side of the house as bright as possible since (from what I can gather) the east/southeast gets dark easily. Thank you all! These are things I would NEVER have thought of just staring at the plan! --- Re: Floor plan - thoughts? What do you think? 23Aug 01, 2013 10:35 am re: the entry, I think it's ok. We will have something similar. It's wide so you will be able to hang pictures on the walls and you could have a small table or buffet at the end. Since that side is west facing, consider small high-up windows (I don't know the proper term sorry), they'll let breeze and light in but shouldn't let too much heat in. Re: Floor plan - thoughts? What do you think? 24Aug 01, 2013 2:11 pm In our first build we had a huge master bedroom with a retreat and to be honest it was a waste of space. Our current master is 4 x 4 and we have heaps of room. In saying that I would be tempted to push the laundry wall forward and make that the study. Then I would turn the ensuite toilet 90deg to give you extra robe space. You have good sized his and hers robes and you will need every square inch so don’t lose any of it. Behind the garage I would have laundry, family, alfresco and closed off media. Also looking at the doorway to bed 4, will you have problems getting furniture around that corner? For the entry you could put a niche on the back of the pantry and artwork on the walls, maybe put the internal garage door on rear wall. Regards, Grumbles Re: Floor plan - thoughts? What do you think? 25Aug 01, 2013 5:48 pm Yeah from what I remember, my tenders took a while... It goes through the drawers and estimators etc, so a lot of work and thought are put into them. Just make sure that you thoroughly read everything Haha I think it'll always be a debate if you gave him "less" WIR room! So if you made it even, his friends can't turn around and say "and who got the most space in the WIR!?" haha! Glad you liked my ideas, I didn't want to upset you at all because it's really quite a nice plan! Where are you building? Re: Floor plan - thoughts? What do you think? 26Aug 05, 2013 2:53 am Building in Melton South Vic, first home so can't get too hung up on everything, but it is hard-earned cash we're parting with so a lot of effort does need to go into tender Grumblebum54 - I'm interested to know what you meant about "pushing the laundry door forward and making that the study"? I do agree a big master bedroom is a waste of space for some, and I'm one of those that agree.. esp if there's a bit more room in the WIRs.. I realised this weekend we need more kitchen bench space, however I'm not prepared to permanently close off one side of the kitchen.. maybe have those benches that fold up and down, like in diners? Lol.. I'm not sure what those dotted lines are on the kitchen bench either can anyone shed some light? Was going to ask the builder this weekend but he cancelled our appointment. I need to make sure the kitchen has enough space for the hubby as he does all cooking.. and the bench space just doesn't seem big enough. --- Re: Floor plan - thoughts? What do you think? 27Aug 05, 2013 3:50 am I meant push the laundry wall forward so the space would be big enough for a study, then your ensuite and WIR would move forward and you would lose a bit of bedroom space. Your kitchen area looks similar to mine but what is the square bit on the end of the island and where is your fridge going? The dotted lines on the bench usually indicate overhead cupboards and the dotted lines on the island would be where the cupboards end under the bench and the dotted lines around the area could indicate a dropped ceiling over your kitchen. Regards, Grumbles Re: Floor plan - thoughts? What do you think? 28Sep 17, 2013 11:25 am Hi all! Sorry for the delayed response grumblebum54 - the fridge space is in the WIP, and the kitchen island bench is currently 3800x800 on the plan (the square bit is a misprint and should be corrected in the final version). I confirmed the dotted lines are the bulkhead. I've been emailing the builder and the structural changes are coming along nicely we're back in business after a hiatus due to trying to organise everything for the land settlement, which is all fine and done now. --- Re: Floor plan - thoughts? What do you think? 29Oct 02, 2013 8:33 pm Hello everyone long time no speak. Thanks so much for your advice on this thread, it helped me so much to get to where the floorplan is now. I've since learned how to post pics here, so no need to click through my blog yay! Current floorplan draft is here, would again appreciate if there's anything sticking out like a sore thumb that I should address ASAP, thanks! - http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67405 --- No. It's not original.
