Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 31, 2013 1:18 pm Hi everyone! Me and my partner have been reading the forums as we're preparing to build our first home. We've love the Sandringham 38, however we don't have kids and we feel that this home will be too big even with a couple of kids. We are aiming for a well-resolved high quality contemporary design and to achieve this chances are we'd need to upgrade a lot of areas. As I said, the Sandringham feels huge for us, so we're also considering the PD Barrosa 34. As you know, Sandringham is Prestige and Barrosa is Lifestyle (middle tier). Both houses are VERY similar in terms of the floorplan. The question is... floorplan aside and since we'll make lots of upgrades, is it worth paying the extra $30,000 for the prestige collection or are we better off going for the lifestyle and put the $30k towards more upgrades in the Barrosa? We can't find anything online that clearly specifies what's included in the prestige and what's included in the lifestyle Thanks for your input! Re: Porter Davis - Heavily upgraded home; Prestige or Lifest 2Jul 31, 2013 1:29 pm I went with Lifestyle, but heavily upgraded it. In the end I think I'll end up with exactly the same quality for basically an identical price. My advice though is to focus on the floor plan rather than arbitrary range titles. PD's "Prestige" range would be more accurately called their "massive" range, especially now that it only includes two story structures. Find the layout that fits your lifestyle, then adjust it to suit your taste and budget. HD Re: Porter Davis - Heavily upgraded home; Prestige or Lifest 3Jul 31, 2013 8:29 pm Agree, we did the same as lurgen. We went with the floor plan we liked and upgraded it heavily also. I am hoping with the amount spent on upgrades that it will be on parr or even better than a prestige in terms of our finishes. The only thing we weren't fussed on was the carpet. And for the record, we thought our house was too big even with kids but we didn't feel it was worth going smaller for the area we are building in - predominantly bigger houses. So that might be another factor. Good luck with your decision Re: Porter Davis - Heavily upgraded home; Prestige or Lifest 4Aug 01, 2013 10:33 am Thanks for your input guys. I agree with you both... I don't really care if it's prestige, lifestyle or access... at the end of the day I'll make lots of upgrades anyway! Unfortunately PD called yesterday advising us that they're not willing to make the layout changes we've requested... time to look for another builder! Wow that is terrible about the insurance!
