Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Here we go- and go and go and go 82Oct 10, 2008 6:07 pm grrrrrrrrrrr can i rant yet? No earthworks... not happy. Re: Here we go- and go and go and go 83Oct 20, 2008 8:36 pm After several days of the builders attempting to get hold of the earthworks guy and only getting message bank today we've heard they've finally managed to get him. so.. Earthworks are now due to start this Wednesday and will take approximately a week. This means that the slab start( due this Thursday) has been canceled and will be a few more weeks yet. I gather 7-10 days + is common but it depends on slab size, availability of workers etc.
I'm trying to take comfort in Pebble being told her house will be finished in January which means ours maybe completed in March. Though I still won't be 100% surprised to find us still waiting several months after that. Our slab really only took about 3 days from memory (and what a bad memory I have). They actually had 3 cement trucks on the go because they had to drive them in from Pemberton - I guess about a half hour or so drive from here. After that they like to let it cure for about 7-10 days. Providing your earthworks is straight forward I think things should go pretty smoothly & quickly, well hope so for ya! Depends if you're getting slab heating, termi mesh etc etc? Re: Here we go- and go and go and go 87Oct 22, 2008 7:28 pm managed to get to the slab late this afternoon. Nothing happening. AGAIN!!!!! Re: Here we go- and go and go and go 88Oct 23, 2008 7:05 pm We have pegs and there's a nice big digger parked on our block. Right in line with where I was planning to take photos every time. grrr.
We will be whipping back down there later to take a pic or 2 when the guy has gone. In the 2 times Dh or I have been there this afternoon ( over 60+ mins apart) the guy hasn't changed positions. He's been standing beside his ute with one foot in the door arch talking on his mobile phone. hmmm Re: Here we go- and go and go and go 89Oct 23, 2008 7:06 pm kexkez We have pegs and there's a nice big digger parked on our block. Thought I'd make my own start on our earthworks. BUT it's not true of course. After what seems like forever we have earthmoving equipment on the block and some site pegs. Yippeee.

I am so glad that the developer took away many of the rocks.I've been told the developer took away several truck loads. There is now a truck load of them just from the small extra section that had to be cleared for our house plan. You can see some of the state forest land behind the plum farm in the distance. Looks like a very nice view to have.
Good to see you have a few trees left on your block as well!! Re: Here we go- and go and go and go 97Oct 25, 2008 9:32 am yes the back looks over the plum farm and state forest. In between the 2 are a couple of paddocks that usually house cows. very distant though. to the left ( looking straight on at the block) there are 1 acre blocks across the road and state forest behind them as well. It's a huge part of the reason we chose the block. It almost feels like we are in the bush but because it is on the edge of town we still get town benefits,-under ground power, phone and town water. eventually the plum farm will be rezoned and subdivided but it's not going to happen too soon. They just had rezoning rejected this year and given that the blocks around us are not selling it will be a while before they try again. Someone told me they have to wait 3 years anyway and then its approx another 3 years before it all happens after that. So we've got at least 6 years to enjoy it.
I'm glad we kept a few trees. we would have liked to have kept a couple more but they were too close to where our garage will be. The trees are on the western side of the block so they'll be great for shading the kids bedrooms.( well the eldests bedroom) We've opted for a southern alfresco which means it will be quite cool ( to put it mildly) in winter so i am pretty sure we'll put up some of those pvc blinds. But we couldn't resist having the best lookout and also being able to enjoy outdoor alfresco things without being near neighbours. Eventually we hope to put a gabled + flat patio area on the se side of the house as well so we can sit out all along there and look across at the forest and eastwards towards town where there is a public open space area that is still mostly bush and where most of the kangaroos congregate. (at the start of our street) We are going to put in some screening to keep privacy and as a wind break but still be able to enjoy the outlook. Before anyone posts about wasting northerly aspect or having an afresco on the south side.: The block release is only 21/2 streets and there were no other blocks like ours. It was the only block that has the outlook it has and the height( we are the highest block in the release though only by a little) Re: Here we go- and go and go and go 98Oct 25, 2008 6:28 pm Nice piece of land! Exciting when you can see something happening on your block.

He must have started this afternoon trying to finish off the dig part.
