Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 31, 2013 12:34 am Good evening all. I have just noticed my bricks vary in colour, I don't know if its a different colour or batch but I think it looks terrible. Please help. I'm stressed out. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a91/bl ... ld/image-6. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a91/bl ... mage-5.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a91/bl ... mage-4.jpg Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 2Jul 31, 2013 12:37 am First pic didn't come out, take 2 http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a91/bl ... mage-6.jpg Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 4Jul 31, 2013 12:59 am That is what I thought it was at first, but now that the roof is up there are bricks still that colour under the alfresco so I don't think so, but it has been raining a fair bit so I could be wrong. If they are not wet is that colour difference acceptable? Thanks for responding Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 5Jul 31, 2013 1:03 am my roof has been on for a few weeks now as well and still have some wet patches but not at the top of the walls like yours...seems a bit odd? if the bricks do actually have that variation then I wouldnt accept it...id insist on render! Hopefully a simple explanation though Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 6Jul 31, 2013 1:07 am Ok thanks, hopefully there will be some dry days so I can tell if its just wet bricks fingers crossed Should I contact my builder at this point or wait and see? Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 7Jul 31, 2013 1:21 am if they are wet then the mortar should be dark in those areas too. I wouldn't panic on it too quick, if there is variation then nothing can change it except render which can be done at any time I have a feeling they are just wet though....but need to find out why they are wet at the top...check your eaves to see if they are wet! Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 8Jul 31, 2013 1:25 am Ok thank you so much Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 9Jul 31, 2013 1:05 pm Hi 3munkeys I honestly think they're just wet. Our house does the same thing, in random patches that make no sense, whenever it rains. I've noticed houses around ours with light bricks that do it too. It looks alarming, but I don't think it's cause for concern. Time will tell when you get a few days of sun, but I think you'll find they all lighten up and look the same House is looking good, by the way! And what house is it? I'm building with Aveling too - in Baldivis (Parkland Heights), and our house is the Kitsilano. Looks like we're at about the same stage. Our roof tiles have just gone on and our plasterers (green float) started today Looks like you have a lovely big block... Yes I do think we are at similar stages, I had the same wait as you for the brickies to come once slab was down, 4 weeks wait. They have given us an estimation date of mid October so I hope they stick to it. I am building in carramar the wildwood estate, lucky to have a 1000 sqm block, not that I will have any money left to do anything with it lol. I am building the samaya, which is the base version of the Californian, they told us it would be cheaper to build up, in the end we have spent nearly the same as the luxary design but have missed out on all the extras Our plasters started Monday I hope it goes quick now, nice to see changes happening nearly daily. Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 12Aug 01, 2013 1:54 am Oooh, a 1000sqm block, you big lucky! That's awesome Don't worry, your house and land aren't going anywhere, you can always do things slowly over the years as you can afford it If you've been given an estimation of mid October then it must be roughly the same for us? That's nice to know...I was hoping for any time in November, so it sounds like we're definitely on track. We were originally looking at Aveling's luxury collection, some beautiful houses definitely, but they were a bit out of our budget. We were thinking the same as you and went for a more mid range priced home (start at around $220k) and built up from there. Our final cost was around $325k, but I feel like we added all the things that we wanted (stone benchtops, glass splashbacks, high ceilings, bigger bedrooms, wc basin, double vanities, full height tiling, extra cabinetry, triple garage, stone clad portico, larger al fresco, semi-frameless and hobless showers, clipsal saturn switches, walll faced toilets, above mounted basins, undermounted sink, heaps of down lights, etc) - though it did come to around the same price as the luxury collection homes in the end. But we also got r/c air con, tiling throughout, internal painting, overhead cupboards, smart wiring and a few other things included as part of the promo....so I think where we lucked out was in choosing a 'promotional' home to start with? Sorry to hear you got a bum deal on your extras, they should have looked after you there if you were spending the same amount as one of the luxury pads!! Look forward to following the rest of your build...keep those pics coming! I love those! If our kitchen had have been against an outside wall I would totally have done the same...that's going to look fab. I also really like how your block backs onto bushland...very tranquil Our thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64272 Purchased land August '12 Titles Jan 27 '13 Prestart - Jan '13 Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 16Aug 01, 2013 3:16 am Oh thank you, I love it. Yes to the window splashback. I'm sure it will look nice but be a pain the clean Plus im not sure abput a window dressing either but i wanted loys of natural light and loved the look I hate the two different window heights but didn't pick up on it. I love our location, to be able to sit in the backyard and view bushland is the reason we picked that area, it's hard to find these days. I purposely picked a kitchen that sat on the outside wall for the view and to watch the kids play while I cook and clean. The Samaya was the only design that had this, it was hard to find a builder where the kitchen didn't sit in the middle of the house. Your a bit of a night owl I had a nana nap today and can't sleep. I am loving the aveling threads with all the pictures, it's what we can look toward too Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 17Aug 01, 2013 3:21 am I am a night owl, most nights I don't get into bed until 12.30 - 1am! You won't notice the window heights once you have everything installed in your kitchen, and it will definitely be handy for keeping an eye on the kids while they play outside. I come from up in the hills (Darlington way), so I'm used to lots of natural bush...I miss having those views too (even though there's quite a lot of bushland in Baldivis, so it's not too bad). Still, to be able to sit in your back yard and soak in all that serenity...aaaaah Not to mention the birdsong in the mornings and evenings, very nice. I'm off to bed now, night Our thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64272 Purchased land August '12 Titles Jan 27 '13 Prestart - Jan '13 Re: Aveling build - need help please, can't sleep, stressed 20Sep 15, 2013 12:15 pm Hi Everyone I'm new to this thread, as I stumbled across it googling Aveling. We are planning on building "the Samaya", although we have only seen a Californian near lock up which it is the dearer house......and of course I fell in love. I read that you spent about the same amount as you would have with the Californian on the Samaya. We are wondering where to start? I am flipping the back half of the house from the garage basically and taking out the study for a triple garage.......its a necessity. I would love to hear your feedback on what you upgraded and if you are happy. We haven't signed anything although we love this plan (ours would be rather tweeked). Currently we are awaiting mock ups of what I like after seeing the Californian. I really want a large pantry but after seeing this ones design, which had a scullery in, I now would ,like that...........yes bear in mind, its a "want", not a necessity. cheers Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 1023 Hey everyone Not for me or anyone I know, just generally interested.
