Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Colorbond or tiles? 41Aug 24, 2013 11:22 pm When we do our renovation, we're going to switch to a metal roof. I have a lot of fond memories of hearing rain on the tin roof when I was a kid. Security issues aside, I have found a company that does metal tiles. In 5.4M length and 1.2M wide, we are going to use that to replace our roof, we don't have to have a shed look, but something that looks like tiles instead. Re: Colorbond or tiles? 42Aug 25, 2013 8:34 am I haven't trolled through the posts but just add - tiles are much easier to move when you need to look inside your roof. On new houses its amazing how some (few) items need checking or installing. Wires especially. I was just thinking about this when my electrician had to check that something had been done. Only thing - make sure they replace the tiles properly. We decided on tiles and are glad we did. We seem to be the only house around us that has them and they look great. All the other CB roofs just look identical ... Re: Colorbond or tiles? 43Aug 25, 2013 8:39 am OOT I remember flying into Sydney and seeing all the red roofs. What an era when we all had them. Now it seems to be CB. We didn't do tiles to be different - just because we thought they looked better. And ... we are so glad we did when we drive along and see CB roofs covered in Solar panels - quite ugly - and almost every roof is CB. By accident we may been the one-out house. Who knows - it might set a trend ... Re: Colorbond or tiles? 44Aug 25, 2013 10:08 am We have Colourbond - our builder doesn't offer tiles as an option (even to pay extra), but that's fine by me. I was looking forward to hearing the rain - but it seems the same as tiles to me, must be the insulation, although we didn't ask for any extra insulation, it's just the standard offered by the builder. I also love the Colourbond...our nieghbours have like orangey colour tiles with white/orange bricks...it just looks so dated and I'm sure the house isn't more than 5-7 years old (since that's how old the estate is!) 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Colorbond or tiles? 45Aug 25, 2013 5:43 pm stellabella We have Colourbond - our builder doesn't offer tiles as an option (even to pay extra), but that's fine by me. Agree SB. Some tiles can look dated. But most don't. I just like being the one with a different roof ... But - the rain is a good one. It almost got me to make it CB - so I'm glad it wouldn't have made any difference. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10107 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2861 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 17654 |
